This collection is a rock and roll timepiece! It contains songs recorded by Elvis for Sun Records in 1954 and 1955. The early recordings before he hit the big time. Each is a classic! Included are his first hits like "Blue Moon of Kentucky", and songs that made the Country Singles chart in 1955, "Baby Let's Play House", "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone", and "Mystery Train". Also included is an alternate take of "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone". This is CD is a must not just for Elvis fans but any student of Rock and Roll. These songs are the bricks that make-up the foundation of R&R!
Like an earlier reviewer, I'm a little perplexed at the title of this collection. The liner notes read "In the compiling of the Sun Master recording in London in the 50's...", while as far as I know, Elvis was never in the U.K.--Ever! The label is a stranger, the packaging is minimal, and even some of the titles don't "fit" (the slow version of "You're Right, I'm Left, She's Gone" is titled "My Baby's Gone".) But no matter--this is the most complete picture of Elvis the innovator you're going to get your hands on in one disk. The bonuses make the purchase worthwhile, like the 1953 acetates of Elvis's first ever recordings, which he paid $4 to make the summer after his high school graduation. The recordings from the Louisiana Hayride are also a pleasant surprise, and while the quality isn't great, to hear Elvis in one of his earliest live performances really is a find.
The only thing really missing is the outtakes that are included in some of the other Sun offerings, but for me, that tradeoff was worth it.
Not much here when it comes right down to it(Saying nothing against the recordings)All have been released before on RCA.If you have the Great Elvis RCA boxed set of his 1950s years or Sunrise. You dont really need this.Im staying pat with what I already got.
