This is an odd little comp as the track listing seems a bit random but it does include several great album cuts.
This CD is somewhat sought after because mastering guru Steve Hoffman was in charge of it. He only had the American copy tapes to work with but the sound is thick and full, unlike the recent SACD's that were EQ'd to be bright with pretty aggressive compression (for music of this vintage anyway). The bottom end on this CD is big and the dynamics are in tact.
It's a fun CD to listen to that isn't yet another rehashed Greatest Hits record.
Remastered by Steve Hoffman of DCC gold CD fame, this little-known CD sounds great. The tracklisting may be a little puzzling, but getting Elton classics like "Tiny Dancer" and "Your Songs" on a CD that sounds THIS good makes it a steal. Highly recommended.
It's unbelievable how Elton John has made so many albums. In fact, he's come close to Elvis Presley's record of so many albums released, and some which have gone out of print. "Your Songs" happens to be one of those many neglected gems in Elton John's overstuffed catalog. It's an odd collection of a few of his biggest hits, like "Your Song" and "Tiny Dancer", and the rest being deep album cuts from some of his early 70's classic albums. However, this is one of the few albums containing the minor hit "Friends", and that's what makes this odd compilation rather unique, although the "Friends" soundtrack had some other great Elton John songs on it. That also makes it great for this budget album which has ended up in cut-out bins in the past. This is a bit much for casual fans of Elton John, but those who want more than just his biggest hits and do not have his early 70's albums, they will probably enjoy this, although it's not really essential. Besides, with so many better compilations and the fact that most of his early 70's albums are essential, nobody will really need this. It's especially very hard to find nowdays. However, I still enjoy it all the same, although I have just about every album Elton John has ever made. I'm even one of the few people who even remembers this compilation, despite the fact that it's been out of print for so long. There is no doubt that Elton John himself has even forgotten that this album ever existed.
The guy who wrote the review saying that this disc sounded good must have been trying to unload his used copy. The sound is lousy, even by early MCA standards. Unless you are broke, I would recommend avoiding this one.
