Being that I have all eleven of Grant's solo cds I can attest to the quality of this compilation. I do not usually support compilations as they tend to be money making schemes by the record companies. However, considering the fact that most of Grant's catalog is nearly impossible to find since it's out of print (particularly in the United States), I'm actually recommending this compilation. It has his hits and good album tracks all digitally remastered. For those who never checked into Grant's music, you will be rewarded here. Those of us who have been long time Grant fans will not really need this compilation except to have the songs digitally remastered (and they needed it!)

As mentioned by others, the compilation's song choices are top notch.

The mix on this CD is very heavy (ICE 690102 purchased from Amazon). If you like that, then this will please.

For me it sounds a bit too dull and boomy on some of the songs, while being just perfect on some of the others.

I'm off in search of better mixes for the songs with the troubled sound.

'Boys in the Street,' 'Romancing the Stone,' and 'War Party' sound wonderful on the 'Hit Collection' mixes, and to me sound superior to the overly bright mixes of these songs on the 'Road to Reparation' collection .

'Put a Hold on It' also benefits from the heavy mix and sounds better on the 'Hit Collection' than on the 'Gimme Hope Jo'Anna' album.

'Electric Avenue,' 'I Don't Wanna Dance,' 'Living on the Frontline' all sound better on the 'Road to Reparation' collection. These songs get dull, muddied, and over-thumped on the 'Hit Collection,' but they are mixed brighter and clearer on the 'Road to Reparation' collection. On the 'Road to Reparation' collection they have better transparency on the vocals. Also, the brass and cymbals can be heard much more clearly. Even with the brighter mixes there is still ample bass left over to give a satisfying thumping at volume on these songs, as mixed on 'Road to Reparation'.

So it's a mixed bag (sure... pun intended). If your ears are tuned like mine and you really like Eddy Grant's music, you will probably want to listen to some samples and seek out the better mixed songs. There is a significant amount of variability in the mixes on the various albums and compilations.

For me, having the songs with the best mixes means the difference between 'interesting to listen to' and 'reach over and crank the volume knob up.' I'll have as much of the latter as I can find.
