- For die-hards only. Others beware.

I am a HUGE Doors fan and own their entire catalog. However, this "box set" was a disappointment. THE POSITIVES: These CDs allow you to (somewhat) experience what a Doors concert on an average night would be like. At times, when you're listening to these bootlegs, it seems as if you're actually at the concert(though listening from the bathroom), and that's worth something. And, of course, you get to hear rare recordings of 'Wild Child', 'Soft Parade', and many others.

THE NEGATIVES: The sound quality is absolutely horrendous (as can be expected) and makes enjoying the music very difficult. While listening to the CDs, I was also struck by how mediocre The Doors were live, at least when they knew they weren't being professionally recorded or videotaped for TV. In many of the songs, the tempo drags and the band seems uninspired...a far cry from the other live Doors albums which, by and large, rock. It makes you wonder why this set was released.

But it is well known that the remaining Doors will release, re-release, and re-package everything they can get their hands on to make a buck. It is only a matter of time before Mr. Manzarek, et. al release a tape recording of Jim Morrison singing in the shower, "digitally remaster" the recording, put it on a CD with 15 other songs that have already been released, and sell it for $16.99.

- Disgrace to The Doors' legacy & insult to the buyer

This release is a saddening disgrace to The Doors' official discography. All tracks are audience recordings, and even considering this they're mediocre ones too. The cd's are hardly listenable and only of interest to dedicated completists.

To ask 81.00 dollars for this product is an outrageous insult to buyers. The only release these recordings should have is for example as free downloads on a website.

Don't buy this! If you gotta have these tracks, hunt down the "original" bootlegs, if only to prevent the remaining doors from earning one single buck for this embarassing fraud.

- Doors fans and non Doors fans stay away !!!!

Worst idea ever! This is the biggest waste of money a doors fan could see on the music store shelves! There is NO way that this is worth! 90$. The 4TH cd is the best ... and there are only 4 songs on it that you would say are awesome doors songs to have in your collection.... Why and how can a group ( there not a group anymore since jim is dead ) this day in age can put out a low low quality cd and charge this much? Well because there are doors fans like me out there not smart enough to stop themselves. However, I hope that this review stops you from buying these cd's! And remember each cd comes with the lines "No Returns! " on it.

They better put out a SB show soon because once you get this you will be sick of the doors!

- THE ABSOLUTE WORST COLLECTION EVER RELEASED!!!

THE PREVIOUS 5 STAR REVIEW MUST'VE BEEN AN EMPLOYEE OR THE OWNER OF THE DOORS LABEL...SORRY BUT THIS IS THE WORST COLLECTION EVER ASSEMBLED...I THOUGHT THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS WERE JUST EXAGGERATIONS BECAUSE THEY WERE EXPECTING SOUNDBOARDS...PREVIOUSLY THE DOORS WERE RELEASING FULL LENGTH SHOWS THEN THEY WERE SET TO RELEASE PITTSBURGH AND VANCOUVER THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY CANCEL IT...THEN 1 YEAR LATER THEY RELEASE THIS PATHETIC REPRESENTATION OF MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT WHATEVER IT WAS INTENDED TO BE...SORRY TO SAY IT APPEARS THE DOORS WERE JUST LOOKING FOR TO MAKE SOME FAST MONEY KNOWING THEY HAVE A LOYAL BASE...AND THEY PROBABLY KNEW THEY'RE BASE DOESN'T GO BEYOND THAT...WHAT I'M SAYING THE DOORS MUST KNOW THE SAME PEOPLE ARE BUYING THEY'RE RELEASES...IT'S GETTING REALLY RIDICULUS...THE REGULAR CDS HAVE BEEN RELEASED 5-6 TIMES EACH...THE SAME BOX SET 2X...DVD'S ESSENTIALLY ARE REPEAT MATERIAL IN SOME CASES...IN FAIRNESS TO THE DOORS I WISH THEY'D GO BACK TO RELEASING SHOWS FROM THE OUTTAKES OF THE ABSOLUTELY LIVE ALBUM...RELEASE PITTSBURGH, VANCOUVER, ISLE OF WIGHT ETC ETC IT WAS A FABOULOUS PERIOD FOR THE BAND...I HEARD MANY OF THE BOOTLEGS MYSELF AND THESE ARE MUCH WORSE THAN THOSE AS WELL...I'M JUST DISAPPOINTED IN THE DOORS FOR DOING THIS...ALSO THERE WAS THE SHOW FROM THE MATRIX...THEY PROMISED BUT DIDN'T DELIVER...SO THERE'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING SHADY WITH THE DOORS LABEL THAT'S NOT REALLY BEING REVEALED.

- Horrible, unlistenable sound quality

I was excited to get this Doors Box Set. I know that there are some good sounding Doors shows circulated amongst collectors, and I assumed that Robbie Krieger (the Doors guitarist who assembled this collection) would pick from amongst those rare circulating recordings, and from unreleased gems from the Doors vault. Also, the Doors have already released some great sounding live recordings on their Bright Midnight label.

Well, I was wrong to think that! Every song on this 4 cd set sounds like it was recorded on a cheap cassette player by someone standing in the audience. You can hear people talking in the audience more clearly than you can hear the Doors. There is no mention of the poor sound quality in all the promo materials posted on various websites (like this one). This could have been an amazing and great set if the effort and care was put into it. Heck, I could have put together a better set than this.

Don't buy this set. It's a waste of money, and a black mark on the reputation of Bright Midnight Records. And how the Doors can possibly consider charging $20 per disc, for garbage like this, in this day and age is beyond my belief.
