I first listened to this album years ago. Fisrt listen- I was disgusted. Second listen- I was agitated. Third listen- I was indifferent. Fourth time- I loved it.
The Damned have almost been forgotten in the music world, yet their music from the seventies is still as contemorary today as it was when first released. This collection of crusty punk staples will make you cringe, make you laugh, make you wanna mosh. I recommend the Damned collection to ANY rock or punk or alternative music listener looking for something different to rediscover and bring a little excitement into their lives. Here lies some of hard rock and alternative's greatest influence in the past 20 years. Long live the DAMNED!
While this is still a good album, it is not a cd version of the original album There are songs missing & added to this version-in particular jet boy/jet girl is NOT here as mentioned below.
Some more stuff from the "Damned, Damned, Damned" and maybe a song from "Music For Pleasure" would of been nice. They must of had problems with Stiff records on getting the music. A live version, and pretty good live version, of "New Rose" is included. Other than not much for the first two LP's this is a great collection of material from "Machine Gun Etiquette" and "The Black Album". With a couple of suprises: "White Rabbit", "There Ain't No Santy Clause" & "Jet Boy, Jet Girl"(from Sensible's Softies). It is also a very good starting point for those not familiar with The Damned. Its is not, however, the essential collection(that has yet to be made). "Best of" is a better starting point than the hot and cold 2-disc "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" collection.
