This is a wonderful collection to thrill any Doris Day fan or those who love classic American popular music. It's in superb sound: the digital remastering is amongst the best I have heard - the years seem to fly away. The huge book and complete discography will give hours of pleasure. I love it. I also recommend the sequel, Secret Love. Thanks to all at Bear Family Records, Germany, for the project.
The Bear Family Box undertook the job of compiling all of Doris Day's solo recordings done while at Columbia Records, covering a time period of 20 years (1947 to 1967). From this endevour, 4 different box sets were created, one of which "It's Magic". This 6-CD box set covers 146 recordings made from 1947-1950 while at Columbia. Please note that these recordings are NOT the movie versions. The tempo of the movie songs are much slower in this set. It includes unreleased songs and alternate takes. The book alone is a keeper. The quality of the binding and the content is worth it's weight in gold. The pictures and stories are amazing.
I also have "Secret Love" (1951-1955) & Que' Sera' (1956-1959), and "Move Over, Darling" (1960-1967).
I am hard pressed to think of any woman who has a voice as pure as Doris Day. You will not be sorry if you purchase this box set.
