- Not the Doris Day you might think of

Oscar Levant quipped that he "knew Doris Day before she was a virgin!" I believe she also sang with Les Brown before she was a virgin. This is NOT the Doris of "Pillow Talk" and "Que Sera Sera!" Playing the discs I keep slipping into thinking I'm listening to early Ella Fitzgerald recordings from her Chick Webb period! Phenomenal! Beautiful! Rare treasures! I'd say ANYONE who is interested enough in this set to even be READING this review absolutely MUST buy it! And it's chockful of great songs you've never heard before too!

- A Great Reprise of Doris Day's Early Recordings with Les Brown

I thought the collection of Doris Day's early recordings with the Les Brown Orchestra was just great. I'm listening to it even as I write this review, and just loving the music.! Doris Day was such a talented lady and such a "class-act" that it is so wonderful to have her 1940's recordings to listen to. There is nothing like them on contemporary radio, or most contemporary media for that matter. The songs are so gentle, warm, romantic, and listenable. I happened to buy this particular CD set from one of Amazon's associate dealers and it arrived quickly and was in like-new condition. It's unfortunate that the set was a fairly limited release, probably targeted at an "older audience",and therefore is becoming scarce and expensive to buy new. But I'm really enjoying mine and would recommend it without reservation. The recording quality is excellent for such vintage material.
