Please buy this. Enjoy it. These are the man's final recordings, and I think they are some of his best. Then again, I prefer later Django (post-1947, esp.)so maybe I'm biased. I love this disc, though; a shame this was the end of it. I can't think of another jazz player I wished could have stuck around a few more years that Django. The opener, 'Impromptu', showed that he could still play at 200 mph when he wanted to, but most tracks are more laid-back. 'Troublant Bolero', in fact, is so laid-back it's got an almost narcotic effect.
The only thing I don't like about this is that there are a couple of unnecessary remakes toward the end. One version of 'Nuages' too many, you know? Still, plenty of intriguing originals and covers of classics. Valuable music. Give this a listen.
