- Don't fix what isn't broken

The original version of "In Your Room" brings me to tears. It's powerful, beautiful, dark, and emotional. The Zephyr mix that they have been using on tour(Singles and Exciter), which is on this single, just doesn't live up to what was once a masterpiece. Zephyr is more conventional, and mellow, and loses momentum before the third verse, instead of crashing into you with full force as the original does. But even a bad move for DM beats anything else that's out today!

- Haunting.

The album version of "In Your Room" starts out a lot like "Clean" with a pulsing bassline that leads into a buildup of airy sounds and great vocals by Dave Gahan. The single version is just as mysterious, if a little more rocky. Martin Gore's guitar sounds as great as ever, and the Zephyr mix is IMHO a better version. to each their own. I think this is a wonderful song that leads into the next album "Ultra" very nicely. The live version of "Policy of Truth" is also pretty interesting to listen to.

- A deep dark mode

In your room is probably the most well-written, articulated and emotion driven song off of Songs of faith and devotion and surprisingly the best single as well. First of all, everyone is allowed to have their own opinion about a particular version but please don't let the popular opinion of other reviews in regards to the "zephyr mix" of this song sway you against buying this single.

Firstly, in regards to all those who feel that the zephyr mix " ruined " the song, It is simply a remix, and in this case there are numerous remixes of the song and each are different and everyone has their preferences ( my favorite version on this cd is the "apex" mix where they barely sing at all ). Please do not let these individual opinions lead you to believe that the only quality song you will be getting is the album version itself. In MY opinion, the zephyr version is a welcomed cheerier enterpretation of a song that's original version is quite intense and at times unsettlingly eerie. I applaud DM for trying a different approach to the song and since my first DM cd WAS the singles collection, that mix was the first version I had ever heard and I wouldn't have gone ahead and purchased this single if I didn't like THAT version. You will find both versions to be quite a contrast to each other but then, isn't that what we would like to hear when we buy a maxi single anyway???

And let's not leave out the great live tracks on this cd as well. A very nicely done live track of In your room as well as a song I like to consider somewhat of an added bonus, Policy of truth, which is probably my favorite version of that song with it's upbeat, anthem style rhythm. Also don't forget about the other remixes on this cd. the "Apex" mix features what I always consider to be a very rare treat for all DM afficianados: Hearing Martin Gore on a totally Dave Gahan vocal song. This is probably the most sensual version as it creates a moody, raw ambience. All versions carry the intesity of the album version but without the gloominess.

As a whole, I think this is a very sucessful single that should please everyone except for the DM-snobs who cry bloody murder if by chance they don't like a particular version. Tsk Tsk, you should know better!

- Best single EVER!!!

This is THE VERY FIRST review I have ever written here on Amazon. I have owned this CD single for about 7 years and let me tell you one thing....the live versions of Policy of Truth and In Your Room are good, the Zephyr and Jeep Rock remixes of IYR are very good, but the Adrenaline Mix of Higher Love is my favorite music track....OF ALL TIME!!!!

Seriously...Francois Kevorkian went where no DJ has gone before and served up an abolutely fantastic mix of what was already my favorite DM song of all time. This single is one of the remaining few CDs I keep in rotation in my car(I usually use my mp3 player), because it's so incredible! If you are a fan of DM even in the slightest, you *MUST* buy this CD single ASAP! I mean like...NOW. It absolutely rapes all other DM singles in my opinion!

- A great singles CD from DM

Without going into the details of each song in this singles CD, it's simply one of the very best singles CD from DM. Every song is mesmerizing. Different versions of the same singles, as always from DM, have great variations. And it's no exception to 'In Your Room'. Once again DM have delivered what their fans expect from them.
