"World In My Eyes" may be one of the best CD-singles DM has ever put out. Sure, remixers from the KLF, the Beloved and Francois Kevorkian took their turn with the title track but that's not what makes this single such a great buy, it's the b-sides!!! Ah yes, those oft obscure studio leftovers that usually end up on the cutting room floor due to album length, producer choice or studio pressure.
"World In My Eyes" is not really CD single at all but more of an EP. "Sea of Sin", one of the best Depeche Mode songs from the Violator era and "Happiest Girl, yet another song in my top 10 DM songs of all time are both contained within... and they're remixed. Makes you wonder what the album versions would have sounded like. The only thing missing that would have made this single perfect is a remix of "Halo."
So buy with confidence and play those songs for the less informed! And, when they ask, "What album is that on?" Tell them it's one of those things that only a true DM fan would know.
Buy it! If you haven't heard "Sea of Sin" or "Happiest Girl" then you are missing out! True DM fans wont be dissapointed.
World is My Eyes is one of the better buys as DM singles go, as besides the title track, you get 2 vocal b-sides and a couple decent remixes. Most DM singles include only 1 b-side, and sometimes the b-sides are just instrumentals without lyrics. "Happiest Girl" and "Sea of Sin" borrow elements from "World in My Eyes" and therefore are not completely original, and the lyrics are not as strong as what you would expect from an A-side or album track, but both are still good atmospheric, energetic DM songs. The remixes of World in My Eyes are also not as redundant as many A-side remixes can be, and I rather like the Oil Tank mix.
Therefore, if you're just starting to collect DM singles, I would recomend World in My Eyes as one of your first buys. The b-sides on the Violator-era singles are all pretty good, and WIME gives you two of the better ones.
All I have to say is DM is the most amazing group...anyhoo, this maxi-single is absolutely one of their best!! Dave Gahan sings "Sea of Sin" more seductively than anyone. (In addition, this is the only place where you can get "sea of sin"!!)
Ladies...this song will get you into a SUPER, ULTRA seductive mood instantly when you hear this!
I recently bought this single for the title song, "World in my Eyes." To my extreme delight, I discovered a totally different song called "Sea of Sin." I had never heard this piece and reveled in finding something new. The lyrics and passion of this song are classic DM at its best. The instrumental third track is also very good.
