"Too Drunk to Fuck" was to Jello Biafra and his fellow Dead Kennedys what "Sex" and "Girls, L.G.B.N.A.F." were to Ice-T -- a slice of crude, sexually explicit, down-and-dirty humor from artists who were best known for serious social and political messages. In interviews, Ice often said that people who listened to his albums had better be prepared to experience all sides of his artistry; they should expect an intellectual, thought-provoking side as well as a sexually explicit, politically incorrect side. And the same thing can be said about the Dead Kennedys, whose 1981 single "Too Drunk to Fuck" is good for some cheap thrills. On this cult classic, the left-leaning Biafra doesn't sing about First Amendment issues, the Reagan Administration's foreign policy in Latin America, or the activities of the Christian Right -- he sings about being too drunk to have sex, and he goes out of his way to offend anyone with delicate sensibilities. The tune is forceful, inspired, rude, crude, and -- if you aren't offended by off-color humor -- hysterically funny. One of the things that earned this single cult status and made it a collector's item is the fact that "Too Drunk to Fuck" never came out on any of the LPs or EPs that the Kennedys provided in the early 1980s; the tune isn't on the band's debut album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables or its 1981 EP In God We Trust, Inc. Nor is the single's B-side, "The Prey," a disturbing number about a mugger who is getting ready to rob a businessman.
