Review - Amazon.com
Former Savage Garden-er Darren Hayes's long-awaited solo debut proves that light pop music can taste mighty good. The swoon-inspiring Aussie singer's love for the Smokey Robinson- and Michael Jackson-era Motown sound shines throughout Spin, though Hayes adds a slightly salty edge to the shiny, happy proceedings. The lightweight arrangements are mostly synth based, with cursory nods to au courant trends. "Insatiable" is bolstered by a slight Latin groove; "Crush (1980 Me)" recalls the Human League's sassy, computer bop; "Heart Attack" vividly recalls the aforementioned Jackson. The wistful ballads "I Miss You" and "Good Enough" are as fizzy as root beer floats. --Rebecca Levine

- Kickass, Addictive, and Hot...

With chart-topping hits such as "Truly, Madly, Deeply," "I Want You," and "I Knew I Loved You," from the internationally-known Savage Garden, Darren Hayes embarks on his solo career with a BANG!

Starting at the top, "Strange Relationship" offers a dated-sounding smooth groove, already making your ears ask for more.

"Insatiable," his first single, shows his writing talent and range of vocals, as well as providing a great love song.

"Heart Attack" is the first of many danceable songs that sounds somewhat reminiscent of Michael Jackson's recent work.

"I Miss You" is one of his few Savage Garden-sounding songs that is a mellow hit that is easy to love.

"Creepin' Up On You" is another dated-sounding songs featuring a nice arrangement of strings, as well as a kickass beat to dance to.

"Dirty" is another MJ-type song, but Darren adds his signature bang to it with the harmony and chorus.

"Crush (1980 ME)" is a perfect example of how good you could take an 80's sounding song and add today's technology to it. His vocal layering and dance beat makes this song unique and awesome.

"Good Enough" is another slow groove, which gives a slow break to the dance, yet keeps up the mood, preparing you for...

"I Can't Ever Get Enough," a song that might send Enrique for a spin, as the Spanish-style guitar accents this song perfectly.

"Like It or Not" is a similar song as that above, very Savage Garden sounding, perfect in every way.

"What You Like" picks the tempo back up with a kick, with techno signatures weaving throughout the song.

Finally, "Spin," the title track is probably my favorite song over all. This song features some of his best harmony that will put Nsync's (perhaps) only talent to a big big shame. He layers the sounds with his voice, and it pays off.

Overall, I would strongly recommend this CD, as I am enjoying it greatly. My sister which (sadly) hated Savage Garden loves this CD as well.

Darren Hayes is here, and hopefully here for a good while.

- Get a taste of the tour!

True Darren Hayes fans will love this! In addition to Spin, the first solo project from the ex-Savage Garden crooner, listeners will get a taste of being in concert as they experience the disc of live performances included in this package. The spectacle of Savage Garden shows has gone, and is now replaced with the exquisite vocals of a great entertainer. These "unplugged" performances of favorite hits from his album Spin makes this a great listen. If you're not a fan, but you love good music, give it a spin...you won't be disappointed.

- Be careful...He's dangerously charming

Ive never been a Savage Garden fan. Ive had two their albums though and loved some songs very much (To The Moon And Back, Truly Madly Deeply, I Want You and almost everything from Affirmation) but they were not my only fav. in the music. I didnt like Darrens dark and a little feminine image.

Something amazing has happened with Darren Hayes debut CD. I didnt know about SG split, about this scandal change of Darrens hair color, I only knew that I cant get enough of Insatiable since the first time I have heard it on the radio. This song became a great hit in Russia, you could hear it on every radio stations for every hour. Then I bought an album and I fell in love with it from the first sound of Strange Relationship. Its 7 months since that, but Spin is still my favorite album ever. I joined the great army of Darren Hayes fans (welcome to darrenhayes.ru and hayesteam.narod.ru). I was at both of his concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg and extremely impressed by singers strong, pure, wide-ranged voice. You can dislike the music but you cant deny Darrens talent as a singer and entertainer.

Savage Garden was a combination of two great gifts music of Daniel and vocals and lyrics of Darren.

With Spin, the leading and the best part is Darrens incredible voice and his melodies. As to the music, its still in evolution (love this pop mixture of 80-90th but thats not his completed style). The lyric is very poetic even though its not as soulful as in Affirmation. (Is it clear that I became a crazy fan of Savage Garden too?) The title track is the best example of lyric, it reminds deep and sincere lyric of Affirmation and Animal Song . Either I would recommend you to read Where You Wanted To Be as the other best lyric but this song is a B-side.

This CD is great anyway. I love all the songs but at the moment my fav areummWhat You Like, Like It Or Not, Spin. Some songs are very intimate and passionate, others are for party and having fun.

Looking forward to the next album!!!

P.S. Girls, be very careful! Now Darren looks so charmingly so you can lose your heart (but he does not at the albums cover though, Id prefer I Miss You UK single cover).

- Darren's voice is hot

Darren Hayes has absolutely amazing vocals. This album shows off his voice even more so than both Savage Garden albums. His voice is just so pure, but sexy, and his range is unbelievable. You can feel his emotions when he sings, like when he moans. Who would have thought that moaning and sighing could sound so musical? ("Insatiable" is a good example of this.) He has the most stunning vibrato...I love how it quivers, but yet he remains in control of his voice. Every time he goes to falsetto, I get chills down my spine. When you listen to him, you can just sense passion, tenderness, intensity, desire...it is ridiculous that I'm even trying to describe his voice. It can't be put into words, you just need to hear it to believe it.

This is a lot different than Affirmation and Savage Garden's first album, but I think it is just as wonderful. Listen to the song "Good Enough." This song is just average, but the last minute of it is heavenly. Darren hits all the high notes with amazing ease, and it sounds beautiful. "Insatiable" (the most sensual love song you'll ever hear), "I Miss You", "I Can't Ever Get Enough of You", and "Like it or Not" are all terrific ballads. There are also more upbeat tempo songs, like "Spin" and "Crush (1980 Me)". Oh yeah, if you are able to get a hold of "The Heart Wants what it Wants", please do so. It is a really good song, but only available on the CD with the bonus track. (I downloaded mine from iTunes)

This album is filled with romantic lyrics, heart-warming music, and Darren's indescribable voice. I love this album.

- SPIN ! The best Album I have heard in Years!!!

This album is the most awesome I have heard in years! The hit single "Insatiable" is nothing less than breath taking. Each and every note is pure gentle seduction itself. If you have ever been fortunate enough to have been in love like this, then this song will truly strike a "chord" in your heart. "I Miss You" and "I Can't Ever Get Enough of You" are very reminiscent of the simple, moving beauty of "Savage Garden". And who could resist getting up and dancing to the energetic beat of "Dirty"? The free-flowing melody of "Good Enough" can brighten the lowest spirits. Every single track on this album is a tremendous hit! Congratulations to Darren on this wonderful solo sensation!
