Man, I can't believe it's already been over 10 years since The Crystal Method originally released Vegas...and I was 18 at the time! (I feel so old.) I bought TCM's Vegas when a friend introduced me to it after we had listened to the Spawn soundtrack and I had told him that the first track ((Can't You)Trip Like I Do; By: TCM and Filter) was my favorite on the album. Well, just like "Mary Jane" being a gateway to other drugs, Vegas was my gateway to Electronica music!

I bought this Deluxe Edition of Vegas for 3 main reasons. (Listed in order of importance.)

1. It's been remastered! I compared the same tracks I ripped (in AAC format) from my original Vegas CD and ones I ripped from this new edition; the difference is like night and day! Much cleaner and more vibrant sounds. It's like listening to the album for the first time all over again!

2. My original Vegas CD has gotten really scratched up over the past...WELL HOLY CRAP, IT REALLY HAS BEEN 10 YEARS! It's on the verge of not being playable anymore, and since I still like to have the physical media for albums I really care about (even albums I download I back-up on CD-R's) it was an excellent excuse to buy this deluxe edition!

3. I got it for cheap off the Amazon Marketplace! (You poor suckers who paid $25 or more for it! Ha, Ha, Ha! ;>b )

As for the "bonus" 2nd Vegas disc with all the remixes and stuff...all the other reviewers are pretty much dead-on when they say it sucks! I only found 3 tracks:(Busy Child (Hyper Remix), High Roller (Myagi Remix), and Vapor Trail (Live)) to be any good at all, the rest are just fodder for those who have no taste! Basic beats, unmemorable music with some sounds from the originals, but they sound nothing even close to their predecessors; basically making it a "listen to it once, then forget about it" CD!

So if you're a TCM fan with an aging, 10 (or even 5) year-old Vegas CD, OR are discovering TCM/Electronica music for the first time; I'd really suggest buying this album. TCM's Vegas is (now) a classic that has and will withstand the tests of time, and now that it's been remastered, it sounds even better!

As stated above, this is classic Crystal Method. Too bad it's not available in a higher format disc. That said, however, this cd is remastered and sounds great for a cd. Check out their Legion of Boom DVD-A. Now that one sounds fantastic!

LOVIN every bit of Crystal Method! this album my fave out of all their work, is almost 100% awesome, only one Ho Hum track, better than most other albums of the same genre. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND PLEASE COME BACK TO BURNING MAN !!

My reviewer Kris had this to say in his djfix review of this featured-packed re-release of TCM's original release... "The Crystal Method has gone all-out on this reissue of its debut, celebrating ten years of happifying fans of electronica. There's two discs worth of material for fans to sort through - enough to keep 'em busy as they revisit classic tracks from the Method and hear startling variations on these classic track, as well as a few other goodies. First off is Disc One (duh!), the original "Vegas" album remastered so you can hear every last drop of acidy goodness in these texture-heavy tunes. Those textures and that LSD edge are vital elements of the tracks on "Vegas." Indeed, without those, the album would fade away. Of course, the catchy grooves can't be ignored, though, ironically, I think that's where the album's weak spot shows up. While the rhythms and grooves are pretty damn tight here, the album overall displays a slight lack of hook. It's odd, because the distinctive rhythms employed by Crystal Method boast a pretty sweet flow. Somehow, though, I kept waiting for the music to take that one last step - like its just an nth away from putting it over the top and bringing it home, as though I felt the breeze as the hook swept right by my ear, grazing but missing. The tiny but pivotal piece of energy missing on disc one (which is still a good disc, believe me) is present and accounted for on the second disc, replete with remixes from a number of other electronica artists, such as Tom Real, The Rogue Element, Paul Oakenfold, Koma and Bones... and so on. These tracks hit with the pulse that's almost-but-not-quite-there on the original album. But at the same time, by straying from what makes The Crystal Method, well, The Crystal Method, these remixes make a trade-out, exchanging a chunk of the Method's personality in return for that boost of energy. Of course, remixing is frequently the art of completely redefining a song, and on that count, these are successful. There is also a demo track, a live track and a pair of videos to round out the package. Crystal Method completists will certainly want to snap this up and those who like "Vegas" but, for whatever reason, haven't gotten around to buying it, will want to buy this version. The curious would also do well to start here. Big beat breaks aficionados will also benefit from this package. There's no denying The Crystal Method's artistic significance in the world of electronica and my near miss in trying to click with "Vegas" should serve as no discouragement for others."
