When the Calling first released "Wherever You Will Go", it took a few months before the mainstream hooked on to it, and then eventually it became so popular that it stayed in the top 40 for over a full year. But subsequent singles weren't up to par, and then it seemed like the band dropped off the face of the Earth (unless you count Alex Band's substitution for Chad Kroeger in Santana's "Why Don't You & I"). But now the band came back with Two, which is titled as such because of one of the following reasons: 1) it's the band's second album, 2) the band has been cut down to only two members, or 3) only two people own this album.
All jokes aside, I looked at the other reviews on here, and the reviewers are completely split down the middle; people either say the album is terrible or remarkable. So I guess it looks like I'm playing neutral when I say that the album is just okay. The album starts out GREAT, though, with tracks like "One By One" and the leadoff single, "Our Lives". And the romantic "Chasing the Sun" may look a little corny on paper, but to hear it is to enjoy it.
It's too bad that that formula doesn't work as well with the other love-oriented songs. "If Only" is okay, but "Anything" could stand a rewrite; and sorry, but "Surrender" is cheesier than a Savage Garden song. And there's also the obligatory end-of-album keep-your-head-up song, "Your Hope", that really doesn't come off more than tolerable.
While the Calling didn't really break any new ground with this record, it's still an above-average album, so if you like light rock, feel free to give it a spin.

The new Cd from The Calling does not disappoint die hard fans and will draw in many new fans. The boys have grown up but have not lost their sincerity or raw musical talent. This CD is a must have for anyone who appreciates great music, beautiful vocals and meaningful lyrics.
The best songs on the CD are "Anything", "Things Will Go My Way" and "Somebody Out There". All the songs have their own unique style and the lyrics are deeply woven. This is one of those rare CDs that you cannot skip over any tracks. You won't tire of this CD anytime soon. Great Job ~ The Calling!
Two is an amazing cd....even better than Camino Palmero. The guys and their songs have matured so much with deeper meanings in the lyrics that make you think more. Their music is inspirational to some, provides hope to those who feel lost, and some beautiful lyrics and music to anyone willing to listen. Each song is unique, which is refreshing considering some artists whose songs all sound the same. Since the subjects of the music vary, so do the actual songs. Some are uplifting, catchy, erotic, rockin, passionate, beautiful, and narrative, etc. My personal favorites are "Somebody Out There" and "Surrender". Overall I'll compare the songs...
1) ONE BY ONE- a definite favorite that will get stuck in your head. Alex sings very passionately and the music shines through forcefully so you remember it.
2) OUR LIVES- It reminds me or Wherever you will go, not because of the sound of the song, but because I think people will be able to easily relate to it. It's the first single, and because it is so beautifully written and catchy (like Wherever you will go) it's a an easy favorite that will draw people in to buying the cd. You won't be disappointed!
3) THINGS WILL GO MY WAY- It starts off very slow and gradually speeds up when Alex begins to sing. The lyrics are beautiful and uplifting.
4) CHASING THE SUN- I love this song! It's so amazing how Alex compares the sun (nature) to who he is singing about with so much passion.
5) BELIEVING- a very emotionally charged song with an even bigger message. For those who need inspiration, listen up!
6) ANYTHING- It sounds predictable at first, but the way Alex sings the song shows how deep he really feels. The instruments in the song are beautifully played.
7) IF ONLY- This song has some of the best lyrics on the whole cd. It might not be as catchy as some of the others at first, but it's definitely worth the listen.
8) SOMEBODY OUT THERE- My absolute favorite! It begins with Alex placing a scene in your mind, so you understand where the song is coming from. It's not like anything of their songs before, but I guess that's why I love it. It's so refreshing to hear, and has a very hopeful message.
9) SURRENDER- Perhaps the most passionate song on the cd! Yes it's detailed and erotic, but it's done is such a beautiful way. I can tell the way he says the words, he's giving you the idea of what he's saying, but you put actually put the picture in your mind. It's not vulgar or graphic, but is very beautiful, as is the actual song.
10) DREAMING IN RED- It has a beautiful melody that's hard to forget. Actually it's hard to describe either, so go listen and figure out what it means to you!
11) YOUR HOPE- Very poetic and hopeful for anyone who needs it. The words of Aaron provide an extra little personal touch to the beautiful song and message.
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard their second cd. So often I've gotten the second cd from artists and it has been so bad compared to their first one. That's not the case here, because they have matured so much and the music has such a bigger meaning. Oh and let's not forget that it's an enhanced cd with music videos, etc! Anyway you've heard what I think of the cd, but you'll never really know how good it is unless you go out and buy it yourself. So happy shopping to you! :)
(I'd technically give this CD 4 and a half stars.) I picked up Camino Palmero the first time I saw The Calling at a concert in Washington state. I instantly fell in love and was so excited when they announced their second album, Two, coming out. To begin this CD- One by One is an extremely beautiful song, and a great opener to this, especially for fans of Unstoppable. The CD continues with their hit, Our Lives and the songs continue to remain beautiful. Hold On rivals Stigmatized, and some of the songs are obviously more evolved and the CD remains a beautiful reminder of their talent. Songs of love and Alex's high notes are abundant, and the lyrics this time around question more than their freshman debut. Two is deffinitely worth the money and the Calling remains one of the best underated bands out there today.
If you like The Calling's first CD you are sure to love their latest! It demonstrates how the band has grown musically. My favorite song on this CD is "Our Lives" I think that is a song that a lot of people can connect with. I would recommend this as a cd that you can listen to anytime. It doesn't matter what mood you are in, you'll find this to be an excellent Cd to listen to.
