You’ll no doubt enjoy the sound of the beautifully remastered songs on this CD (as opposed to MP3's that contain less information, which translate into compromised sound). But we think the thing you'll appreciate most about this Playlist is that even though you didn't make it, you might wish you did.
There are so many Cyndi compilations out there that anyone seeking the most representative will likely have a great deal trouble making the appropriate selection. I'm a fan, but I'm not sure which package I'd recommend to a newbie myself. There are a couple of things that this recent sampler has going for it, though. First off, is the price. That'll be subject to change over time, but likely not by much. Second, the packaging is eco-friendly and that will make a lot of listeners feel good about their purchase. But most importantly, this record really does represent just about the entirety of Cyndi's career to date. The mid-90s collection TWELVE DEADLY CYNS had a lot going for it, BUT it was weighted so heavily towards the first record that almost any listener would be justified in wondering whether she'd actually done anything significant after SHE'S SO UNUSUAL. This collection doesn't include anything from her much neglected HATFUL OF STARS album, and champions of her "comeback" AT LAST album might feel slighted on seeing nothing included from that release. Still there's enough here to satisfy fans AND to pique the curiosity of the uninitiated. That's a lot for a bargain price.
The quality of this collection is excellent; the packaging is simple and neat.... I'd like to see more of these Playlists...
One of the best cds regarding the great songs that cyndi Lauper has sung. My favorite is : I drove all night.
This is a so-so collection. Is it the best depends on what songs you just gotta have. The basics are here. Even though more songs are from "She's So Unusual" than any other album, I could still take another or two. It was her "masterpiece" after all. Now if you're dying to get "Goonies R Good Enough" you'll want the Essential collection. It's roughly the same as this, swapping a few tracks. For years fans have wanted her Vibes movie song "Hole In My Heart (all the way to China)". To the best of my knowledge that's found on the Japanese import version of "Twelve Deadly Cyns" or the Australian 2-disc collection "True Colors". It's also on a "Hits of 88" disc somewhere out there. At this point it's clear we need a 2-disc "Very Best" collection. I'm sure that's not far away...
I enjoy Cyndi Lauper's music for two different reasons: I love the liveliness, cheerfulness, and loveable kookiness she injects into her pop numbers that are so identified as "Cyndi's own sound" and you come away with a feeling of happiness when listening to her "fun" songs.
As a change of pace, I love her quietly sweet, sensitive portrayals that tell the "stories behind the music" in her ballads.
Well worth getting for your collection! I received a wonderful product at a great price from Amazon.
