so much Great depth, warmth&SOul too digest.Curtis Mayfield was a Genius of Rhythm,Soul&Feel.Jerry Butler the First Ice Man before George Gervin just has so much Fire in His Overall Presentation.this is like a 3 for one Package here.Curtis Solo,Jerry Solo&then you get them as part of the Impressions.it's a Win,Win situation for me.
Lets be fair now. as a child of the sixties..i was born in 1956. was around 3yrs old when i first heard Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler singing for your precious love..circa 1958 but wasent until 1959 when i was 3 still in a crib lol that i remember the smooth sounds of the impressions. this is/was a magnifercint group who could match key for key with the motown groups who were beginning around the same time..ie smokey and his miracles and later(1963-65)the tops and temps. smokeys group(the mircales) greatly overshaddowed curtis's group. i mean when motown hit in 1960(shop around/please mr postman it seems whomever else was out had to take a back seat. and this was truly unfair because the impressions harmony was just as good if not better on certain songs as motowns mircales or tempts or tops..however.curtis/jerry could not get no love.like one post said.we dont need to hear My Girl and Just my Imagination 30xs a week and all of the host of other great groups who were just as sweet sounding get no play at all..this is very unfair. there were many other groups besides the motown greats :supremes,tempts,tops,vandellas..we had the impressions, major lance, shirelles, and a thousand male groups who sang just as good as motown. I love the motown acts.but they were NOT the only acts that were putting it down.I really feel many of the groups that came out 1961-1966 were eclipsed by the Motown heavy weights. This was very unfair. and it still goes on today. Only certain songs even by the motown acts are played.the same songs My Girl Just my Imagination..and the supremes.
