I cannot believe there are so many people who are dissapointed with the bands sophomore effort, which I find as good as their first and even 3rd record !!!!Along with Black Flag and The Germs, these guys helped write the rules for the style and for generations to come.Loud, angry 1 min. blazes of undiluted raw aggression, with a nice sound to boot !!! Only complaint is that this used to come on a two-lps-on-one-cd with Group Sex on Frontier, but then there were a number of defective cds which did'nt really include both lp's,contrary to what the box stated,so I chose to buy both vinyl reissues separately.
I can't believe how low of reviews people have been giving this album. This cd is very, very under-rated. Most people have the reason to dislike it because they think it was a weak follow up to Group Sex. I disagree. True, the songs are not as short and fast as group sex, but the sound quality and the song writting has improved greatly over that album. This album is by no means "boring" or "uninspired" as other reviewers said. The songs on here are faster than most punk bands of the time. Every song on here is an amazing punk rock classic.
All in all this album is completely under rated and one of the Circle Jerks best albums. The best songs on here are "Moral Majority", "Question Authority" "wild in the Streets" and "Letter Bomb".
This is the second best Circle Jerks album. If you're just getting into the Circle Jerks by Group Sex first. Then by their other albums, this one is better than Golden Shower of hits. The songs are decently fast and some are pretty catchy. Wild In The Streets is probably the best Circle Jerks song, although I Wanna Destroy you with Debbie Gibson is up there. The lyrics to the song are typical Circle Jerks lyrics, the album is longer than Group Sex so it deserves credit just for that. Definitely worth picking this album up.
I have listened to quite a bit of old school punk rock, and I must say this album is one of the best. The lyrics are funny and meaningful, the tempo is always fast-as-hell, and the songs are short and to the point. along with complete discography by Minor Threat, damaged by Black Flag and Bad Brains this is a must buy.
i grew up in los angeles, "wasting" my youth going to the roxy & the whiskey & the anti-club & the cuckoo's nest, seeing the jerks & the flag & FEAR & agent orange & social d. and everyone else i could see.
i think this is a great follow-up to
even though it's quite different. I think people give it bad reviews simply because it doesn't sound exactly like the first album. it's different but it's still plenty smart and fun and loud and a little mean just like it should be. i recommend it without reservation to anyone who likes punk.
HINT: a while back, Frontier records re-issued "Group Sex" and "Wild in the Streets" on ONE DISC. If you don't already have Group Sex, it might be worth shopping around for the two-fer.
