What was all the chat about this set having a few remixes and liner notes? This is an abomination. This is just the 3 Geffen CDs - CHER / Hear of Stone - 2nd album cover and LOVE HURTS - second album cover with the three liners shoved into a corner 4-spot. It is UN - B E L I E V A B L E that Geffen/Universal released such a disrespective compilation. I am in shock. ONCE AGAIN one of the greatest vocalists of our time gets the shaft. I will NEVER ever EVER understand who WHO is behind the incredible injustice given to this woman's recordings. This is so amazingly wrong. I thought for once "they" could get it right. DAVID GEFFEN: HERE ME & ALL CHER FANS : DO YOUR GIRL RIGHT - YOU HAVE THE POWER, BUDDY.
"Box Sets" are multiple CD collections of a career retrospective that include the hits, the rare songs, unique songs that were included in movies or tribute CD's, and unreleased songs that were recorded for specific CD's or vinyl albums that at the time were not deemed worthy of inclusion in said albums.
This is a marketing ploy that allot of record companies are using these days by packaging 3 popular albums together with packaging that looks like a real "box set" and hoping that the consumer like a grandma or someone who does not know any better would buy it as a gift or the like. CBS/Columbia use this allot.
It is a rip off ploy. I liken it to a record company releasing a CD, then 3 months down the road releasing the same CD with a few more additional songs on it. Carly Simon did it. So did Heart and Mariah Carry. What a rip off!!! Especially since the songs cannot be found anywhere else!!!!
Marketers. Can't live with em, can't live....well, with them!!!!
I totally agree with the other guy who wrote a review...How can it be possible that Geffen records relesases Cher records time after time...every time they want...Absolutely it is not fair for Cher...She released The Very Best Of Cher in 2003, and some time later David Geffen released the "Gold" collection...my god! They use Cher songs as they want...and the worst part of it is that they do not offer anything new...they're just recycling and exploting Cher's music...only God knows if she agrees with it...But I would suggest all the Cher fans: Don't buy this Box Set...I know it's hard, because I love Cher's music too...but it isn't fair that David Geffen keeps making money thanx to her.
And I would suggest Cher to buy or keep the rights of all her songs!!!!
When I knew there was gonna be released a new album i was really excited...it had been rumoured about a Junior Vazquez Remixes EP, so i thought it was that one...and no it wasn't...!!!!What a deception...I'd love to know what do Lindsay Scott or Roger Davis think about someone else is using Cher's image, recordings and name.
What a shame!
First things first. Here's what you get in this box set: Her Cher album, followed by Heart Of Stone and Love Hurts. They all range from almost 16-19 year ago, so I can't help thinking this was just another one of Geffen's tricks or bids to try and gain more money. From someone who already has all 3 of these albums, I can tell you now, they are fantastic songs! Out of all 33 tracks included (10 on Cher, 12 on Heart Of Stone, and 11 on Love Hurts), there are absolutely no fillers what so ever. The David Geffen company, however, are being really greedy and so unfair on Cher lately. This survivor diva - one hell of a one, too, deserves to be treated alot better. If We All Sleep Alone was not in this collection (it's on the Cher album) - my favourite Cher single of all-time - I would've given this 1 star. Because it is, I boost my rating up to 2 stars.
First of all I have to agree with other reviewers about the fact that there were too many hit packages released for Cher the past 6 years.
It all began in Europe in 1999 with WEA's "The Greatest Hits" which almost did betterv than the "Believe" album.
Geffen answered on that for it's US market with "If I Could Turn Back Time - Cher's Greatest Hits" the same year.
Later, while the Farewell Tour was succesfully in the States, Warner Bros (WEA) released "The Very Best Of Cher" in the states as a 1 disc version. Later a special edition was released with a bonus live cd.
Few months later Europe saw the release of a 2-disc version for "The Very Best Of" album with 42 songs(in my opinion the best compilation).
This summer Universal (Geffen) released "Cher Gold" in the US. A 2 disc set with 34 charting hits.
Now Geffen's releasing her three Geffen albums in one box. My opinion about that? It's wonderful. People shouldn't look at this as a hit-package. It's just the three albums combined for the new Cher fans who started Cher-ing this or last year.
Besides, it's not the first time Geffen released a box. Back in the 90s (I believe it was 1994) Geffen released this box in Australia, it's not new, it's not a hit package...it's a re-release and what's wrong with that? We've got a new CD to add to our collection and new fans are satisfied.
