Review - Product Description
Love Bites demonstrates both the Buzzcocks' perfection of their particular brand of pop and their disillusionment with its restrictions. Producer Martin Rushent clarifies the elements of the sound even further, and Shelley's songwriting continues to improve, including the band's highest-charting UK single, 'Ever Fallen in Love' (later covered badly by Fine Young Cannibals). Other cuts, like 'Sixteen Again' and 'Real World', would have made great pop singles as well, but much of the album (which includes two instrumentals) finds the Buzzcocks mired in repetitive structures. Includes bonus tracks. EMI. 2001.

- PUNK LOVE SONGS

The music is fast and energetic with great guitar work, and there are some real gems here. Unlike the punk of its time, Buzzcocks embraced the love song with gusto, as on the classic Ever Fallen In Love. Just Lust is quite a tour de force, and Sixteen Again is a catchy little number with intelligent lyrics. I love Walking Distance's chiming guitars, while Love Is Lies with its prominent acoustic guitar is an engaging bittersweet love song. Late For The Train with its strong guitar onslaught sees tham going heavy on a rousing instrumental conclusion. This a brilliant album of melodic powerpop that impresses also with its literate and poetic lyrics.

- was this version necessary?

Sorry, anytime I see a bunch of demo and live tracks it looks like filler to me.

Go hunt down the 1995 Japanese import of same that gives you the Love Bites album, Parts 1-3 singles and "I Look Alone." Now that one punks out to the max rather than the extra tracks here which are basically already available on Singles Going Steady.
