I heard this group on the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack and instantly loved their music. I bought both albums instantly off Amazon and I am definitely happy I did. The whole album from beginning to end is 5 stars easily. Great music to listen to no matter what you are doing. I find myself singing along to every song while bouncing to their lovable beats. I recommend everyone give their music a chance. I'm sure if you love fun music that is not American Pop garbage you will enjoy this band.
Awesome production, BRS didn't let me down, it may not be as powerful raw as the predecessor, but the tracks are more refined and the album overall shows the growth of BRS as musicians.
This is one great album from a great two piece band. I can't believe the power of the sound they can create with just the two of them. Thank you Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack for pointing me to this band with a song that is not on this album (It's Getting Boring by the Sea). Heartsink, Keeping it Close, Colours Fade, and Don't Ask are the best examples of songs on this album that really show that raw, concentrated power these 2 seem to create with ease. Laura-Mary Carter (guitar) & Steven Ansell (drums) share lead vocal duties brilliantly. When We Wake is one amazing song that really fits well on this album, but would not be the song I would choose to accurately represent what to expect from this band. Would love to see their other album, Box of Secrets, in the MP3 download section here instead of having to buy the imported CD.
Amazing band - especially live. Box Of Secrets is incredible too. Get whatever you can by them. Musicians beyond compare!!!
Second records are allways difficult for any kind of band that has produced an exceptional debut, especially if they were kind of a novelty act. While the novelty has kind of worn off and one had completely forgotten that they existed, Blood Red Shoes have come back and have actually managed to produce an effort that does not disappoint. This is somewhat a great pleasant surprise. Indeed, their format, hot girl fronting a two-piece band with an anemic geeky drummer has its potential limits. Also teh two instrument approach is kind of simple but in this case effective. While the music lacks the poppy feel of the debut it actually rocks harder and the music has a slightly darker side which has brought them a variety that was unexpected. The Cover artwork is really bad however. Overall it is one of the Bristish releases of the year again.
