Review
This 25-minute video compiles four music videos shot to promote songs from Billy Joel's Storm Front album, plus a live rendition of one of the songs. That one is "The Downeaster 'Alexa'," which is reminiscent of Joel's "Allentown" video of 1982 in that Joel is glimpsed singing the politically charged song (and playing the accordion), intercut with footage dramatizing the lives of Long Island fishermen. "We Didn't Start the Fire" similarly puts Joel in the center of the action, as a family is glimpsed displaying the various symbols of the song's history-lesson theme. "Leningrad" employs historical footage to support the song's story line tracing the parallel development of the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. and the lives of Joel and a clown named Victor who befriended him on his trip to the Soviet Union in 1987, and "I Go to Extremes" is a more conventional performance video. Finally, the live version of "The Downeaster 'Alexa'" finds the Joel band accompanied by violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
