This tune is awesome! I literally cannot stop playing it. The rhythm is so minimal, but ultra-deep and hypnotic with unbelievable production (just CHECK that bass, baby)and Beenie Man's chatting is real crisp and funny. One of the best records I've heard all year. I couldn't believe it, but even Scary Spice checked this as a tune she loves (!). Never thought I'd say it, but Mel, you got taste.
On this album there are three variations of Beenie Man's hit single "Who Am I". The first one is the uncut, regular dancehall version, with confident and resonating dancehall riddims. The second one is a dub, that is, mostly instrumental with very little singing. This gives us time to appreciate the pulsating reggae beat. The third and fourth variation combines dancehall music with American R&B, which surprisingly gives a nice, quiet, rythmical feel to the music. The fourth variation is much more R & B, and slow tempo. The album's final track, "Romie", speaks about hypocrites, gossips. This track is not available as a single. This track has a nice dancehall thump.
This is the best single. It has three different versions of WHO AM I? and ROMIE in both regular and instrumental. I thought that the music displayed a good amount of creativity. I would recommend this to anyone that needs party music. It's way up-beat; and really makes you want to dance.
