Wow...just wow...where to start?! Let me say that I have been a fan of theirs since BSB first came on the scene (we're talking concerts, ALL their cd's, etc - I've even met the guys, who are great btw) I'm still a fan and they are one of the only bands who cd I buy on release day, but I must say this is the first album I'm a bit disappointed in. I understand wanting to make a pop cd these days means dance songs but these songs (and their lyrics) are beneath, I think, the audience they started with in the beginning - I think the younger, newer, fans will probably enjoy this album more than ones who've been following the guys for awhile. I enjoy dance songs as much as the next person but BSB is known for making a great ballad and bringing out their beautiful harmonies and that aspect seems to be lost on this album. They aren't a "clubbin'" band so while it's great to see them getting in touch with their roots and going with some more upbeat music an entire album of songs that sound similar to each other just doesn't captivate me as much as some of their previous albums. I'm glad to have them back but I'm hoping the next album wont make them out to be a bunch of boys - as they are now men.
I have all of their albums and this is by far the best. This album was so well done that i really dont have a favorite because their all great songs. You get an r&b sound for both ballads and up tempo's. It's really good the way they mixed it up. Normally BSB are known for their pop ballads but this album will blow your mind.
I love this cd. I must admitt after Never Gone which was ok but not the best I was starting to think Bsb was finally going to be gone. But then came Unbreakable and I saw a glimmer of hope. And now This is Us, wow my Boys are really back.
It moves from pop to R&B to dance and I love it all. I love that some of the themes are more mature and I love that Nick sings about the booty...lol. Come on these men aren't boys anymore so singing about the booty is not that bad. I hope they keep moving in this direction and maturing their sound.
And omg they are still looking as hot as ever. I STILL MISS KEV though.
I see comments I like from all the people who posted one but I definitely agree with Anastasia. I've been a huge fan for many years like most BSB followers and I have to say this is the first time I have been a bit disappointed. The album is definitely worthwhile to buy but it is not their best. They did a great job of "keeping up with the times" but I don't know if it is right for them. I guess it depends on a person's individual taste of music. I like the "boring" "sappy" ballads on the last few CDs like: "I Still", "Climbing the Walls", "Crawling Back to You", "Trouble is" "Love Can Keep You Up All Night", "Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon"..etc...." I know it may get old and cheesy for some but I feel the piano driven ballads are what showcase their harmonies best. I feel the lyrics on the last 2 Cds were much more meaningful. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the fast-paced up-tempo stuff but even the "ballads" on this CD have a thumping base element that kicks in eventually. It's just weird for me to hear BSB say "shorty" lol I guess it's good to try new things as an artist so kudos for that. However, I was definitely disappointed that there are only 11 tracks on the album (minus any bonus tracks). I felt a little shorted when I saw that. All-in-all the CD is worthwhile to get for some good up-tempo dance/workout tracks but if you're looking to be touched or inspired by lyrics I'm not so sure this album is for you.
The song styling of this album is more up-tempo and is a great mix of what's popular on the air waves right now and that uniquely smooth, vibrant Backstreet Boys sound that makes this album a real treat.
The following are my personal favorites:
Masquerade is simply fascinating and with a slick sound that is mesmerizing. The lyrics and vocal harmonies of Shattered and Undone are heartfelt, mature, and gorgeous. Straight Through My Heart, Bigger, and This Is Us all have a really catchy, upbeat, addictive sound that you ~WILL~ find yourself singing along to, just like I found myself doing.
This Is Us is among my best music purchases this year.^^
