This album rips and is the quintessential ATG album imo, lindbergs vocals and the interplay between the guitars is amazing. This album has a truely dark and violent sound and is an example of how harsh this band could be, much more evil vibe than slaughter the soul. you can get six thousand other bands with albums that sound like slaughter the soul, this is the only ablum that sounds like this. highly recomended, now dont be a wuss and buy it.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?! And I call myself a true death metal fan, yet had never picked up this gem of classic Gothenburg sound. This is NOT the best At the Gates album (nothing short of divine intervention could top Slaughter of the Soul), yet it still crushes the modern pretenders to the melodic death throne. Kneel and pay homage to the original masters! Certainly, one might complain that the production is a little muddy, and some of the songs are a bit more meandering than those of the band's later works; still these are minor quibbles. No death fan's collection is complete without this album, and anyone disenchanted with the saccharine drivel being peddled by MTV under the guise of "metal" should check this out and hear what REAL metal sounds like.

This is more of a faster, death metal sounding At The Gates than things you might hear on "Slaughter Of The Soul" and "Terminal Spirit Disease." It's got much lower production, so think of it sort of like Metallica's "Kill Em All," where the music was good but it sounded like a garage demo. This is better than a demo, but it's obviously not recorded in the most expensive studio around. I recommend this for hardcore ATG fans.

I bought this album due to all the reviews that I read here, and I gotta tell you that this album is good, but not that good. I thought that it was going to listen to some brutal riffs and vocals, but I was mistaken.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great album but it's no match for "Slaughter of the Soul".

My favourites songs are "Raped by The Light of Christ" (what a romantic name!) and "The architects".

Buy it, you won't regret it, but don't expect something like "S.O.T.S."
