Netherlands-born singer Amber's (a.k.a. Marie-Claire Cremers) self-titled album finds an open seat in the school of dance-pop classics. Produced by the Berman Brothers responsible for the overly formulaic Real McCoy album Another Night, this CD reveals the brothers' more inventive potential. The tracks on Amber build out of a classic disco framework, adding currents of trance ("Sexual [Li Da Di]") or techno punctuations ("Don't Wanna Stop"). Occasional acoustic-guitar licks add an organic element to "Above the Clouds" and the dance-mix cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind." Amber digs deep to evoke the R&B soul that flavors her vocals, at her funkiest, emulating Taylor Dayne. She sings of love, peace, and unity with a ring-around-the-roses lyrical simplicity, but hey, this is dance music, not Dylan. Casual fans of Erasure, the Pet Shop Boys, Crystal Waters, or Sunscreem will eat this up. --Beth Massa

- MOVE OVER MADDONA AND MARIAH THERE'S A NEW DIVA IN TOWN!

This album is absolutely AMAZING! Amber shows great versitlity with this album. Unlike her first album "This Is Your Night", this one is not much of a Dance/Pop album. It's more of a Dance infused R&B album than anything else. Amber shows off her voice more than on her debut album and her voice is unbelieveable. The songs will move you emotionally and her voice only adds to it. While the songs "Above The Clouds","Love One Another", "Sexual (Li Da Di)", "Let's Do It For Love", "Don't Wanna Stop", & the Stars On 54 track featuring Ultra Nate and Jocelyn Enriquez "If You Could Read My Mind" don't stray too far away from dance, the rest of the songs are more R&B infused. The song "I'm Free" takes a left turn from the rest of the tracks with the only instruments being piano, bass, and voice. "I'm Free" & "If I'm Not The One" are great ballads & "If I'm Not The One" should be released as a single. The lyrics are quite different than on "This Is Your Night". The lyrics deal with more adult issues and the everyday issues of racism & war. With verses like: "Everybody black, everybody white. We are all the same if we look inside. Knowing what we know, why do we still Fight? Time for us to see the light." and "We were given a world so beautiful. A deep ocean. A blue, blue sky. No mother or father should live to see a war where children die." the song hits too close to home and should be given some thought. This album is a masterpiece and should be picked up immediately. Trust me, you'll like it.

- Beautiful! This is a masterpiece.

I love this CD. It has so many good quality tracks! Amber has a great voice and it sounds good on every song on here.

1 - Above The Clouds: This was the albums 3rd single. It is a song about how Amber and her lover got over a troubled relationship and how everything turned out ok. It is an inspiring song with great vocals and background music. I really love this song. Although it didn't do well on mainstream, it was a big club and dance station hit.

2 - Love One Another: This is so unbelievably catchy! The 4th single from the album. This is definately one of my favorites on the CD. It is Amber's cry for peace and for people to stop violence. Her vocals are amazing on this song. Like Above The Clouds, this one fared better in dance clubs than in mainstream.

3 - Spiritual Virginity: This is a more R&B styled song with great vocals. I love the lyrics as well. It's a bit on the strange side, but still manages to sound very good.

4 - Object Of My Desire: An amazing R&B/dance song with African drum beats in the background. The lyrics are simple but effective. It's kind of a sensual song, and she sounds like she put a lot of emotion into this song. You can easily picture her singing it to some guy she likes.

5 - Sexual: The album's only single (2nd release) that hit mainstream radio huge. This was a dance staple for about a year, and my local radio station put it at #4 for their Top 95 of 2000 countdown over artists like Destiny's Child, Eminem, 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys. How's that for a monster hit?

6 - Without You: This is my fave on the album. It is lyrically and musically simple, but is still an awesome, high-energy dance pop song. I really like this one. It's a little short though. I wanted more!

7 - I Found Myself In You: It's kind of boring, so I'll skip reviewing this one.

8 - If I'm Not The One: Same.

9 - Let's Do It For Love: Another pumping dance hit. Once again, nothing spectacular in lyrics, but catchy as hell. Her vocals work VERY well. This is an album standout.

10 - Don't Wanna Stop: Yet another super catchy song. I really enjoy this one. With lyrics like "Don't wanna stop until I'm flying/Cause you know how to work me/I don't wanna stop/No" it puts you in an unbelievably happy and upbeat mood. I think this definately could have been released.

11 - If You Could Read My Mind: This is a dance cover of the original song, and was the 1st single. It was taken off a movie soundtrack, and Jocelyn Enriquez and Ultra-Nate sing with Amber providing for an amazing experience. Super cool!

12 - How Can I Tell You: This is right up there with Without You. An amazing song with great lyrics, vocals and music! In this song Amber contemplates about how to tell her lover she doesn't want to see him anymore. I love this. It should have been a single.

13 - I'm Free: This song is very different. It's performed only with a piano and Amber's glorious voice.

14 - Seuxal (Remix): This gives fans another way to listen to Amber's biggest hit ever. The remix got play on a lot of radio stations, and was also featured on many party cds like MTV Party To Go 2000.

So, in conclusion, pick this up. It is an amazing album. I hope Amber gets even more success, and I hope she comes out with another album soon.

- EXTREME PLEASURE!

This girl can sing and get you on your feet! After hearing the wonderful dance hit "This Is Your Night" a few years ago I was intriqued to hear more from her. This album is packed with funky techno grooves that will have you on the dance floor. "Sexual" is fantastic especially the remix version. If you are familiar with the theme song from the movie 54, "If You Could Read My Mind" (of Gordon Lightfoot fame) that is included here, GREAT SONG! Over half of these songs were also written by Amber and the lyrics are fresh and sensual! This brings back the old days of listening to early Madonna. Her voice is strong and clear and the music is pure pleasure. This is a MUST if you like dance music and upbeat tunes.

- A creation of art and soul- a captivating dance album.

Amber has hit the spot with her self-titled sophomore release. "Amber" delivers grooving dance songs mixed in with excellent productions and personal lyrics from Amber and a slue of other songwriters. The album's standout tracks are- "Above the Clouds" , "Love One Another", the African-styled "Object of Your Desire", "Without You", "Let's Do It for Love", "Don't Wanna Stop", "If You Could Read My Mind", and "I'm Free". The best track on the album, however, is the lead single "Sexual (Li Da Di)". This song, backed with smooth, yet pounding percussion and a very trance-like feel, mixes great with Amber's sensual watery vocals on such a big hit for her. Overall, an amazing dance album that leaves the listener spellbound as well as grooving.

- This CD rocks!

Knowing that most artists, when producing a second CD, did a horrendous job, I had my doubts about buying this. When I got it, though, I was blown away. Amber has a deeper, larger-scale quality in this CD, and it provides a really good balance for her other CD. If you got her first CD and you're wondering about getting this one, don't wait another moment. It's worth it!
