This is a bootleg recording of a 1969 show in Toronto. This collection is available under many, many different names including, Science Fiction, Freak Out, Freak Out Song, Painting a Picture, etc., all of which are available from Amazon. The last two songs "Going to the River" and "Ain't That Just Like A Woman" ARE NOT Alice Cooper songs, nor are they performed by Alice Cooper. (You can confirm that with Alice's assistent, Brian "Renfield" Nelson.)
This is a very poor album. Save your money.
I've enjoyed the hellout of this tape- Of course it not polished, or well recorded. But in my humble opinion its not supposed to be pretty music- this is garage Alice, and for a true fan what more could you ask for?
This is some of the best Alice Cooper material out there. Definitely not for the faint at heart. Avant-gaurde noise rock in the same vein as the MC5/Stooges/Blue Cheer. The highlight's are "Painting a Picture", "I've Written Home to Mother", and the brilliantly funny "Nobody Likes Me". - even SPOT?
As a bizarre bonus two Ronnie Hawkins songs("Goin' To The River" and "Ain't That Just Like A Woman") are added to the mix. I always thought they were Alice showing his love for blues/roots rock.
You limp wristed panty waists who want the Alice Jovi of the 80's could not possibly relate. But if you enjoy raw powerful psychotic romps, then this is for you.
Alice Cooper is brilliant but not here! This must be his lame days b/f his band got their 'sound'. Try anything else but this.
Definitely only for hardcore fans of the Master. Though possibly not some of the groups best efforts this CD shows the beginnings of the Alice Cooper group. These are the songs that first got Frank Zappa's attention and got Alice signed. Though you won't find any classics like 18 or billion dollar babies, keep an open mind while listenning & you'll find some really cool and inventive material. Great recording of some VERY obscure Alice!
