What a fantastic album, start to finish. Possibly the world's best (and certainly most underrated!) pop band takes off the gloves, goes back to the synth sound that made them global stars years ago, and takes back what Keane has tried to steal. The first single debuted high in Europe, entering the charts at #3 in some countries, and will definitely crack the top 10 in England - just like their album and lead single Analogue did 4 years ago. And once again, America will miss out. Blame radioplay. Blame poor marketing. Or just blame the unfortunate 80s label they've shed everywhere else but in the States. Buy it, listen to it, and love it. 10 stars.
The album marks a return to the classic pop sound that made a-ha one of the biggest acts in the world. The ten new songs carry echoes of the band's early signature hits: 'Take On Me', 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' and 'I've Been Losing You'.
If you like the first album Hunting High and Low and Mayor Earth Minor Sky, You will love this one!
So this is it, the final A-Ha release? I guess there comes a time when it's time to sever the cords that go too far back- all the way to their beginning in the 80's- where we all lived in a different world, when they were very young. I think they did it right with Foot of The Mountain. This is an album that tries to embrace every season of their career and does it nicely without crossing the line into full fledge 80's synthesizer pop. That would have been weird. All of these guys have a life and successful careers outside of A-Ha and I am sure they are ready to move on from A-Ha as an identity and simply get on with other pursuits that engage them as men in their 50's- unlike MANY aging rock stars today that don't seem to know when to call it a day. I like the album and I also purchased their farewell tour DVD because, as hard as my wife and I tried, we couldn't make it to one of their tour stops in the USA. A-Ha is one of my all-time favorite groups spanning from my 20's into my 40's. A part of me is bummed to see them go but I will watch their individual careers with interest. Out of blue comes green!
Predictable melodies and lyrics really undermine some well honed talents in musicianship and vocals.
Simple ideas need not be unoriginal. Im a huge fan of this band... not their greatest moment.
makes me wonder, Why are so many band's first efforts their best, most authentic?
It took a while for me to appreciate this album, but I'm now hooked! Easy to give it the five star. My favorite track is NOTHING IS KEEPING YOU HERE.
