This EP is excellent. While it is not as conceptual as his previous release the Labor Days LP, it is full of even more energy. If nothing else buy this album for the incredible hidden track "One of Four." All the songs are dope except for "Brack Basher" and even that is only weak because of the beat. You will enjoy this album.
this man has been at his game for awhile, and it shows. for all the real heads out there this is a household name, no matter what coast your on, or land locked for that matter. support REAL hip hop, as it slowly turns back to it's artistic roots. Daylight, imo, is Aesop and Blockhead in there finest form. don't sleep, FEED YOUR BRAIN!
Once you wind up this spectacularly bizarre rapper, there really is no down time. The man only gives 110% when it comes to putting pen to paper, and this comes through perhaps clearest in the EP's, especially around this period. If he could be accused of anything it is overreaching poetic ambition, something the shorted format helps alleviate.
This album is a great transition between Labor Days and Bazooka Tooth, its sound leaning more toward Labor Days. Every track is solid, except for the Blueprint track. The standouts, in my opinion, are Forest Crunk and the hidden track, One of Four. Forest Crunk is a captivating instrumental which makes fans wonder why Aesop never released a full instrumental album. It is really very impressive. One of Four is a very personal, emotional track, which is not typical of Aesop, but is very good. The lyrics and flow are really some of his best on this song, bordering on genius. Overall, this album is worth buying. It doesn't cost much, but is worth every penny.
If you already have Labor days, I recommend copping this EP as well. "Daylight" is a repeat joint, but this song is sick, it is worth listening to twice as much. My favorite songs on this album are nickle-plated pockets and 1 of 4 (the hidden track), Aes comes from the heart on this one. All the songs on this EP are exceptional though. I have Aes's 3 LPs and 2 EPs, and I listen 2 them all about the same amount, he's just continuing the saga.
