You’ll no doubt enjoy the sound of the beautifully remastered songs on this CD (as opposed to MP3's that contain less information, which translate into compromised sound). But we think the thing you'll appreciate most about this Playlist is that even though you didn't make it, you might wish you did.
This is nothing but an attempt to grab money by a record label. 311 is on their own label now but their old label still has rights to their songs so they can issue a "Very Best of" which is nothing more than most of the songs from the greatest hits with a few album tracks mixed in. The band doesn't see a dime from this and there are much better ways for you to get 311 albums. Do us all a favor and don't support record labels that screw artists
I've been a 311 fan since 1996 when songs like Down and All Mixed Up were being played like crazy on the radio. Since then I've bought every 311 album when it has come out.
This CD is not a 'Greatest Hits' CD, but has some of the same songs as their Greatest Hits album. This 'Best of' collection is very good, and unless you're a picky 311 fan, you shouldn't have a problem with the songs put on this CD. They are:
1. Down - their #1 hit from their '95 self-titled album, this is the most essential song on the CD
2. Come Original - definitely their most essential song from Soundsystem ('99), this song is about the need for artists to be creative and original, like 311
3. Beautiful Disaster - their most essential song from Transistor ('97), this song is played by them at nearly every concert show
4. All Mixed Up - their other big hit from the 'Blue Album' ('95), they didn't edit where Nick says 'f--- the naysayers'
5. Amber - probably their most popular song from 'From Chaos' ('01), this song is beautiful
6. Creatures (For A While) - probably their most popular song from 'Evolver' ('03), this song rocks hard
7. Prisoner - a single from Transistor ('97), I'm glad they included it here because it's not on their Greatest Hits CD
8. Hey You - their first single from Uplifter ('09), a song about music
9. Feels So Good - played at nearly every concert, this one is from Music ('93) and P-Nut always goes off on a bass solo in the middle - also, it should be noted they edited this song, which is not edited on the clean version of Music
10. Omaha Stylee - probably their most essential song from Grassroots ('94), the song has been remixed and sounds awesome, plus has the intro not featured on the now-out-of-print clean version of Grassroots
11. Speak Easy - a great track from Don't Tread On Me ('05), this was originally a b-side from Transistor that they re-recorded
12. From Chaos - the title track from their '01 album, this song slams the rap/rock bands that copy 311, who did it before anyone else - should be noted this song is not available edited anywhere else but on this CD
13. Jackpot - their best song from Uplifter ('09), this song is edited and not available edited anywhere else but on this CD
14. Stealing Happy Hours - their best closer, the last track from Transistor ('97), I like how they left off the weird sounds at the end, giving us just the song
I found this CD worth buying, as I'm a fan of 311's edited albums. I am surprised they didn't use the title track from Don't Tread On Me, but I like Speak Easy too. One other best song of 311's is Freak Out, which they often start their shows with.
I have had this cd for a long time and then my kids broken it. it5 got to my house very quick and I have not stop listing to it. no damage on the cd and it was a great price.
311 put a Greatest Hits out in 2004, so it's hard not to compare this to that. I'd lean towards the other "hits" collection simply because it's longer. But...this does have "Prisoner", "Stealing Happy Hours" and two tracks from the Uplifter album including first single "Hey You". But...the other collection has their cover of "Love Song" and essential early hit "Do You Right". Sadly neither has "Never Ending Summer" or "Who's Got The Herb". I guess my point is that both hits albums are great, just go for the one with your preferred tracklisting.
Love Rock and Reggae. 311 Have it all. Their musik is a great blend of diferent kinds of music and 311 does it fun an very nice. This greatest hits of 311 its a very good selection of new an all time hits from them. It also has a very good extras, fotos, stories, etc. Totally recomended!!
