Southbound 2010 Location: Sir Stewart Bovell Park, Busselton, Western Australia
The Southbound Festival is Western Australia’s premier music, camping and arts festival and takes place in the heart of the scenic south west of the state. The festival was born in January 2005 in Busselton.
With its humble beginnings, Southbound quickly grew to incorporate camping in 2006 and in 2007 (only the festivals third year) sold out six weeks in advance, with 20,000 punters and 8,000 campers. And 2008’s festival was a bigger success yet again.
The festival attracts mixed demographic, but is largely focussed on young and youth culture. However it is an all ages event that’s welcoming to music and art lovers of all ages. As one of the largest festivals in Western Australia, punters can expect to experience the biggest names in popular music, crossing genres from rock to acoustic to hip hop to dance.
The festival also employs a dedicated eco-friendly policy.

Wolfmother mash together frenzied jamming, top class rock riffs and delicate melodies. The band's second album 'Cosmic Egg' is already critically acclaimed with rock bible Kerrang! describing each album track as "fresh and off kilter while remaining immediate and throat-grabbing at the same time."
Cosmic Egg is the follow up to their internationally lauded debut, the self-titled Wolfmother, which has sold over 1.4 million copies worldwide and earned the band multiple ARIA awards and a US Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance.”
The seeds for Cosmic Egg were sown when the touring cycle for the debut record came to a close and frontman and guitarist Andrew Stockdale sat down to start from scratch at his home studio in Brisbane. Stockdale and his bandmates – bassist/keyboardist Ian Peres, drummer Dave Atkins and rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth - rode ashore in picturesque Byron Bay, Australia to begin pre-production with acclaimed producer Alan Moulder.
Moulder brought a giant hessian sack of worldly producer experience to the table having previously worked with the likes of My Bloody Valentine, The Smashing Pumpkins, Ride and Nine Inch Nails. The recording process moved to Los Angeles - a location that added another dimension of rich experience to the recording process and the perfect place to make magic from one’s own mind.
Kerrang heralds “On Cosmic Egg, Wolfmother have exceeded expectation, proving themselves modern masters of riff-centered, bass-heavy bong rock alchemy".

Wolfmother. Namnet är så rätt att mer än ett band borde ha tagit det trettio år innan några håriga australiensare kom på idén. Men så är också Wolfmother ett band som befinner sig en bit bortom normal tidsuppfattning. Sångaren och gitarristen Andrew Stockdale föddes 1976, men spelar som om han var jämnårig med Robert Plant och Tony Iommi. Vilket också är nyckeln till Wolfmothers storhet: den urgamla tungrocken spelas som om världen aldrig hade hört något liknande.
Den självbetitlade debuten från 2005 tog det bästa från ikoner som Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath och Blue Cheer och satte samman allt på nytt, utan att för ett ögonblick vara en simpel sjuttiotalspatsisch. Med gigantiska låtar som Woman, Joker & The Thief och White Unicorn fick trion fans såväl i Thom Yorke och Lars Ulrich som ytterligare någon miljon mindre kända rockälskare som också köpte skivan.
Det Wolfmother som ställer sig på scen på Berns i Stockholm den 1 februari 2010 för mycket nytt med sig: nya albumet Cosmic Egg som är ännu större, bredare och färgrikare än debuten och inte minst tre nya medlemmar. Kanske såg du bandets lysande spelning på festivalen Way Out West i somras. Då vet du att den nya sättningen är ännu mer övertygande än den gamla och får varje årgångsriff och psykedelisk utsvävning att kännas som om man kissat på ett elstängsel. Med en extra gitarr blir soundet också fylligare, vildare och tyngre.
Vill du uppleva den hårda rockmusikens elektrifierande essens ut i minsta nerv får du släppa Guitar Hero-kontrollen och möta Wolfmother vid scenkanten. Ibland är det tur att saker kommer trettio år för sent.
