The Black Magic "El Negro Magico" -- Surfin' Gypsy / La Hora The Black Magic consisted of two sets of Amboinese brothers: Boy + Max Tahalele together with Dolf (Jimmy) + Mike (Michel) Riupassa. Additional bandmembers include Paul Tureay, Mathijs Papilaya, Maurits Harding, Fred Christoffel, Wally Swärtz, Alex Harmanus and many others. In 1961 the band got offered a contract for Germany were they played such clubs as the Kaskade (Cologne), the Havana Bar (München), Treffpunkt Schmeiss (Duisburg), Studio 15 (Düsseldorff), the Jolly Bar (Hanau) and the Musical (Krefeldt). The band also performs for the GI's in Baum Holder. In 1962 Black Dynamites (Los Indonesios) lead singer and guitarist Nico Fioole joined the group and together they went to Madrid, Spain. In Spain the Black Magic were also known as El Negro Magico and played for 3 months in a row at the High Society Club in the famous Florida Park (El Buen Parc Del Retiro). Nico Fioole had already been here before, playing with his own band the Black Dynamites (in Spain the Black Dynamites are better known as Los Indonesios). Back in Germany they played various other clubs before guitarist Dolf (Jimmy) Riupassa leaves the band in june 1963 to join the German band the Team Beats. Dolf is replaced by guitarist Ferry Rugebregt and this Black Magic new line up would go back to Madrid-Spain again to perform for another 3 month at the High Society Club. This time the band also records 2 EP's for RCA records together with their producer Tito Mora. Songs recorded include La Rosita, La hora, Surfin' Gipsy, Vaya Con Dios, Labios Afortunados, Por Ese Amore, Aquella Rosa and Twist Amor. Upon their return to Germany lead singer/guitarist Nico Fioole decides to leave the band and joins his old band the Black Dynamites (Los Indonesios) again. Meanwhile also brothers Boy and Max Tahalele would go seperate ways for a while joining other groups as the Royal Tielman (Max) and the Hondo Rockers (Boy). The Black Magic would go through several line up changes and finally break up in 1965. In the late 60's however, a new Black Magic was formed by original bandmembers Jimmy and Mike Riupassa together with guitarist Steve Risamasu and in the 80's bandmembers Boy Tahalele, Max Tahalele and Nico Fioole also team up together again and start performing all over Holland. September 11, 2005 lead guitarist Max Tahalele tragically dies at the early age of only 60. He will be missed forever by his family and fellow musicians.
