Review - Amazon.com :
The second volume of the venerable British pop-reggae group's greatest hits is drawn from their generally lesser late '80s and early '90s work. By then, they'd found a formula that produced hits (gently percolating covers of pop classics and lightweight originals) and stuck to it. They'd pretty much abandoned the fiery (and specifically British) politics and deep-bass reggae of their early years, but losing the edges of their style also truncated the joy of its highs. The result is pleasant and easy to listen to as the music slips into a bobbing groove. Their covers of "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" are impeccably skillful where once they'd have been ecstatic. --Douglas Wolk

- Bathtime, Rex!
I love UB40 because they present so many listening options. When you actually want to listen to MUSIC, heaven forbid, you can play some of the early stuff - 'Signing Off' and 'Present Arms' being the albums to check out (they are poorly represented on Vol. 1 and not represented on Vol. 2). When you're washing the dishes or giving the dog a bath, then you can let the great bulk of UB40's recorded output wash gently over and around, but not of course, through, you. It's all very pleasant and the essential similarity of the polite, saccahrine-sweet covers they specialise in has a cumulative effect: you and Rex will both be gently bobbing your heads by the time you towel him off. Alarmingly, some worrying signs of Songwriting are beginning to creep back into UB40's muzak: particularly 'Higher Ground' from the Promises & Lies album, and 'Bring Me Your Cup', a song so downright sensuous that Rex is likely to do very strange things to your leg unless you're careful. Woof woof!

- Volume One vs. Volume 1
I purchased Volume One within the past month. This CD has only 10 tracks on it, whereas Volume 1 has 18 as mentioned in an earlier review. So if you are buying this...I recommend you verify what you're looking for!

- A good collection, but...
This is a good collection, but I'd buy "The Very Best of UB40 1980-2000" instead. It has almost all these tracks and more. The only songs missing from "The Very Best..." are "Breakfast In Bed" and "Please Don't Make Me Cry". The latter is a great song, but I wouldn't buy this cd for just one track. (It is also included in "Labour of Love")

- UB40's music is extremely good, and it keeps getting better!
I have been a fan of UB40 since 1988 and i have 16 of their albums, and every new one they come out with keeps getting better and better. They definitely know how to make great music, and it shows with albums like this one.

- Great music!!!
An amazing combination of reggae and carrbian music. The vocals and beat never miss. Excellent cd as are the rest of their albums.
