Seven years have passed since Twista's last solo joint (1997's hood classic, Adrenaline Rush), and that's about three career cycles' worth of evolution in the swiftly moving world of hip-hop. The Chicago speed rapper's managed to do well for himself in the interim, retaining a strong following among the thug-life set and accruing new listeners via judicious appearances on splashy commercial releases like Ludacris's Word of Mouf. The long-delayed Kamikaze plays to both sides of the fan base, presenting a fair mixture of old-school Twista style with enough formulaic stuff thrown in to keep the kids happy. On the "OG" end of things you get tracks like the R. Kelly-produced round-the-way ballad, "So Sexy," and "Pimp On," a player's anthem featuring 8 Ball, Too Short, and the legendary Don "Magic" Juan. But it's the trendier tunes like Kanye West's parody-within-a-parody, "Slow Jamz," and the hustler's anthem, "Higher" (featuring the aforementioned Luda), that make the most noise. --Rebecca LevineCustomer review - 2004-01-28

- Twista- KamikazeTwista's latest album is "Kamikaze" (2004). Hailing from Chicago, Twista is a Rap veteran who has finally managed to get the support of a label (Atlantic) that can market him properly to the mainstream. Guest appearances come from: 8 Ball,Too Short,Ludacris, Kayne West, Jamie Foxx, Jazze Pha, Freeway, Bennie Franks, Danny Boy, T.I., Liffy Strokes, Cee Lo, Anthony Hamilton, Memphis Bleek and Young Chris. Twista tears up the opening track "Get Me", showing his hunger for the game, love for his city while facing his haters. Next he takes things back to his Adrenaline Rush days with "Kill Us All". The lead single is the standout love track "Slow Jamz" feat. Kayne West and Jamie Foxx. It was good to see this cut explode on the radio, its a memorable collabration, what surprised me most about it was that Comedian/Actor Jamie Foxx can sing well. Next two tracks "Get That Doe" (Ain't It Man) and "Still Feels So Good" flow through nicely. Can't say I am really feeling "Drinks" or "Badunkadunk", both seem like filler. Thankfully "One Last Time" picks things up again, Twista's fastpaced flow and chorus shine on this cut. Freeway and Beenie Franks drop in for another good cut with "Show's Over". Ludacris distinct drawl mixed with Twista's trademark flow makes "Higher" an intresting collabration, whether you like this one or not you most likely will remember it. "Snoopin" feat. Danny Boy is a chilled out Rap/R & B collabration. Twista gets reflective on the substantial thought provoking "Hope" feat. Cee Lo, the messages within this track are very positive, this tracks special because Twista absolutely takes things to another level with real and relevant lyrics and Cee-Lo delivers a memorable chorus. Twista and R&B singer Anthony Hamilton drop a nice rendition of a well known track with the upbeat "Lovely Day" (which takes me back to the hit "Player Holiday"). Twista is on good terms with Dame Dash and Rocafella (who want to sign him) so it makes sense that he link up with Rocafellas Memphis Bleek, Young Chris and Freeway for "Art and Life". I have to say I am impressed by this one, it's good to see that Twista is getting the chance to get the commercial attention he deserves after years of being in the background. There are a few tracks I dont feel on this IE "Like a 24", however the majority are good giving this album continuity. The mix of diverse musical cuts make "Kamikaze" a refreshing album which I highly recommend for the collection.

- Kamikaze StyleI've heard of Twista for a long time, but never really bought any of his stuff, even though I'm very interested in "Adrenaline Rush", and will probarly buy it. But when I heard Twista was coming out with a new album I had to get it. I bought it together with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony "The Collection Vol. 1" I was very glad I bought this, and I will brake down track by track for ya. 1. Get Me - Good start for the album. 4/5 2. Kill Us All - Might be the best song on the album 5/5 3. Pimp On - Kind of catchy especially Twista's verse, I didn't care much about 8 Ball's verse though, Too Short was tight 4/5 4. Slow Jamz - The song all of you have heard about now 4.5/5 5. Overnight Celebrity - Laid back with tight flows 4/5 6. Still Feels So Good - Catchy and good 4/5 7. Drinks - Good flows by Twista, backed with a tight beat 4/5 8. Badunkadunk - The only song I'm not feelin' at all 1/5 9. One Last Time - Totally different beat than the rest of the album, but still a tight song 3/5 10. So Sexy - Smooth and sexy. Tight jam by Twista and R. Kelly 4/5 11. Higher - Ludacris' verse is annoying, boring beat, Twista saves the song 2.5/5 12. Snoopin' - Very relaxing and good 4/5 13. Like a 24 - Strange to see Twista do a song like this, still catchy though..just different 4/5 14. Hope - Together with Kill Us All and the next song, this is probarly my favorite 5/5 15. Sunshine - One of my favorites 5/5 16. Art & Life (Chi-Roc) - Perfect end for a very good album, everybody tears it up 5/5 All in all this is a very good record, and is 4.5 stars totally. Only two songs I usually skip, with some classics, and a whole lot of bangers. Don't sleep on Twista's new, and buy all his other stuff too. If you like fast rappers check out Bone Thugs, T-Nutty and Do Or Die too. Get this as fast as possible.

- Twista Brought it Home (4 stars)It's been a long time comin' for Twista to finally break out into the limelight, but with an album of this caliber, I think it was better this way. Lyrically, Twista is in a league of his own, and has often outshined people on their own songs, which makes it pretty hard for people to hold it down together with Twista on his own. But luckily, most of the tracks showcase Twista on his own or with people just doin' the hooks, such as the radio-made "So Sexy" w/ R. Kelly. Twista pretty much kills every track he is on, including the opening two tracks "Get Me" and "Kill Us All". Of course everybody knows how good "Slow Jams" was w/ Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, but I think it should have ONLY been on Twista's cd. The Kanye West-produced "Overnight Celebrity" is a standout track too. The best song on here though, "One Last Time", is a track where Twista is not even rappin' in his normal fast pace, but rappin' at an average speed, in which he songs better than most people who can ONLY rap at a regular speed. Another highlite, which closes out the album is the stutter-step neat of "Art & Life" w/ Memphis Bleek, Freeway, and Young Chris. This song would have been better though if Young Chris was replaced w/ Beanie Sigal, and maybe replacin' Bleek w/ Jay-Z. But hey, you can't ask too much since this album gave us so much anyway. Here's to Twista comin' back even stronger, hopefully with the same marketing and publicity as before.
