"1000 Oceans" is one of the brightest spots on her double-CD, "To Venus and Back." It has a feeling about it that is hard to define. The song is centered around the idea of tears, so many tears that they fill oceans--tears of loss, but also of hope. "I would cry 1000 more if that's what it takes to sail you home." But doesn't crying only increase the distance between people?...

The nice thing about this single (if at first it seems like a lot to pay for only a couple of songs) is that it is a HyperCD. If you have a computer with Internet access (and I am assuming you do if you are reading this) you can access a neat little mini-website that has a music video and a couple of other links. Plus, forever after that (unless you delete it) a little icon of Tori appears on your desktop to greet you whenever you turn your computer on. I think it is worth the money for a CD that does all that--and holds a beautiful teardrop of a song to boot. Tori, you can be MY icon any day! :)

"1000 oceans" was the second single off of Amos's fifth solo album, "to venus and back." Just as the second disc of the album is a live collection of mostly band songs, the "1000 oceans" single offers a further look into Amos's live solo performances, played during "secretime" of her 1998 concert tour. The offerings here are the beautiful "Winter" and the heart-breaking "Baker Baker" (performed here in Pennsylvania).

Amazing. Will always be one of my favorite songs. Brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. Incredibly touching lyrics. Beware, if it makes me cry, it will make you cry too.

Baker Baker is my favorite Tori song! I had picked this CD up a few years ago since it had a live version on it. Little did I know it was from her fabulous performance in State College, Pa. I'm the one you hear screaming in the background early on...I had no idea it was being taped live!

1000 Oceans - brilliant song. Tori Amos delivers a heartfelt ballad that stirs and moves the listener with every delightful note she sings. The first track aside, this CD is an absolute must for two amazing performances of Baker Baker and Winter live (1998).

Winter is particularly stunning - a great quality live performance of a bittersweet song, constructed and delivered beautifully. She takes her time with the song (it clocks in around 6:58), but that simply enhances the song further. Contains a longer intro (a repeat of the normal piano) intro for those hardcore fans wondering if the version differs from any other.

Also contains a web link to 2 videos. At this price, this CD Single is a must for any person who appreciates emotional, poetic ballads delivered with excellence.
