Review - Amazon.com :
Posthumously released albums are always kind of creepy. Certain, probably innocent references suddenly take on prescient overtones. Or, in the case of TLC's fourth, 3D--issued mere months after the accidental death of rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes--we're given a dreary reminder of what might have been. 3D artfully completes TLC's transformation from colorful, freewheeling fashion criminals to confident, elegant R&B divas, albeit divas with attitude and a palpable sense of humor. That's most evident in the sassy, hip-shaking classroom send-up "Quickie," where a droning schoolmarm lectures her pupils on the fine art of pulling a fast one. "Quickie" is a bit of an anomaly, though, as the majority of 3D finds the trio navigating smooth, melodic midtempo songs about love, empowerment, and that rare space in between. The women have never sounded better. As with their classic CrazySexyCool disc, TLC deftly blend soul, hip-hop, faux-gospel, pop, and consistently smart lyrics. "Turntable" is an irresistible ode to positive thinking that should be an anthem for the downtrodden everywhere. That such a hopeful message arrives on the heels of Lopes's untimely death makes 3D that much more compelling. --Kim Hughes

- TLC Evolves In 3D...It Doesn't Get Any Better!!!
Three albums later...we bring you 3D!! The long awaited and supposedly (but hopefully not) final album from TLC has to be their best work yet, and also one of the best albums of 2002! TLC returns once more on 3D with an old school meets new school twistage. This is another album that I can put in the player and listen to the entire album without skipping a song. That's one main reason why it deserves five stars in my book. It's rare these days to find an album in which ever song is playable. If you are a fan of TLC or just joining, don't second guess buying this album...you won't be disappointed. The songs are as follows:

3D Intro: Kind of reminds me of Fanmail's intro. It explains what 3D means and is a very upbeat song. "I can bring it to you in 3D".

Quickie: Left Eye is very involved in this song. It's another upbeat song, one of my favorites. It has a very catchy chorus and will most likely be a single since it was supposed to be the first single from the album.

Girl Talk: The first single from the album! It's another upbeat song that is also very catchy. Said to be the new anthem for women of the new millennium.

Turntable: This song is dedicated to TLC's fallen sister, Left Eye. Very catchy and uplifting, positive song but also sad at the same time. One of my favorites from the album. "Don't get discouraged, there's always a better day."

In Your Arms Tonight: "I just want to have a good time" which pretty much sums up this song. A laid back song made to groove to. The "Creep" song of the album.

Over Me: Starts out with a good beat. Another catchy, fast paced song. Has a good dance beat to get yourself moving. Good song overall.

Hands Up: First real ballad type song on the album. Not my favorite type of song but has a real message behind it. Basically about lying and cheating men. "It's almost like I didn't know you."

Damaged: Picking up the pace on the album again. This song is easy going and the chorus definately has that pop/rock feel to it. Another good song. T-Boz and Chili really shine here.

Dirty Dirty: Sounds like a song from Missy Elliot! Very catchy and upbeat. Has that heavy dance beat which make it very enjoyable. Another favorite of mine!!

So So Dumb: Calming things back down again...another song about the fails of men. Nothing to out of the ordinary here but a good song on its own. TLC has a feeling for a catchy chorus.

Good Love: Another upbeat track from 3D. T-Boz and Chili sing very well together and their voices blend well also. Keeps a steady groove throughout the song.

Hey Hey Hey Hey: Another Missy Elliot sounding track which means it's very good. It has a wierd smearing sound throughout which makes it very interesting. Another favorite of mine!

Give it to me While It's Hot: Unlike their previous album, they end 3D with an upbeat, well-paced song. A nice addition to the album. Seems to be over all to soon... I'm looking forward to the greatest hits album TLC!!!

Lastly, I want to thank TLC for bringing this album to all of the fans. I can't imagine how hard it was for them to finish the album without their sister, Left Eye, who will forever be missed in the music industry. Thanks again TLC for all of the music and memories over the past decade!!

- Warning: TLC is Back!
Watch out, fellas! That sound you hear is the return of TLC, who bounce back with their fourth (and possibly final) album, "3D." It's hard to believe that these ladies have been with us for a decade, during which T-Boz, Chili, and Left Eye rode a violent roller coaster of drama including arson, alcoholism, marriage, motherhood, bankrupcy, and, most recently, the death of Left Eye who was killed in a car crash during the spring of 2002. Not surprisingly, "3D" is a tribute to the spicy member of the group, while other songs take numerous jabs at the fellas as sexually inept, philandering, and slick-talking brothers. We get production from the Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, and the Neptunes, with longtime collaborators Babyface and Dallas Austin. "Girl Talk," like their previous hit "No Scrubs," is not for the thin-skinned, as the track cruelly pokes fun at guys who lack "the package." It should come as no surprise that this catchy tune is billed as the sequel to "No Scrubs," since the lyrics to both songs are written by Kandi Burruss, r&b's reinging queen of talk-show drama. The surviving members make a touching tribute to Left Eye in "Turntable," and the Neptunes (Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams) hop on for the low-key but still bangin' "In Your Arms Tonight." "Hands Up" is a winning, seductive slow jam about infidelity written by Babyface, who radically changes his sound and production style, here. But "3D"'s most vunerable moment has to be "Damaged," which tells the story of a woman begging her man to be patient with her insecurities and emotional baggage from a previous relationship. At 49 minutes, "3D" is concise and to the point, devoid of filler and unnecessary interludes you'd find in other albums. While it's not exactly a huge step forward from 1999's "Fanmail," this album still bangs and earns a B+ in my school of music. The trio's future may be hanging in the balance, but even if this turns out to be their last album, TLC ended their career on a solid note with this disc.

- "Told The Truth, So I Really Don't Give A Damn..."
This year's been a tough one for the massively successful R&B trio TLC. With the tragic death of rapper Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, the group will never ever be the same again. This album is a tribute, featuring some of the last musical works of Left Eye, and quite possibly the last group effort from the other two as well.
The first single, 'Girl Talk', is yet another ladies anthem, stomping any man who doesn't pack enough heat to please his woman. Brazen and bold is the name of the game here.
Another spicy cut is the dirty 'Quickie', a possible single, it features the lyric "he came and then he went, right to sleep on me". The song 'Turntable' provides a warm tribute to Left Eye, as it's dedicated to the fallen star. Another deep cut is T-Boz's 'Damaged', a meaningful plea for acceptance and love.
Player depreciation is a heavy theme here, along with the previously mentioned 'Girl Talk' and 'Quickie', the girls slam slimy guys on 'Hey Hey Hey Hey', 'So So Dumb', and 'Hands Up'. The track 'So So Dumb' is a brutal kiss-off, the girls playing friend to a woman who's husband is cheating, telling the guy off in song. 'Hands Up' is a slinky club style cut, with Chilli and T-Boz finding a lying guy, he said he couldn't dance and all kinds of other lies, but he's up in the club, grinding with some 'hoochies'. But he's found out, and that's that.
The ladies also dip into some hot producers of the moment, pulling a track put together by the Neptunes. 'In Your Arms Tonight' is both signature to the Neptunes sound, yet totally not. It's totally sexy and smoothed out. Then they call on Missy Elliott and Timbaland, on the song 'Dirty Dirty'. This track is hot, very energetic and funky. The beats are wild, and it's definitely made for club floors. Killer track.
At the end of the album, Organized Noize provide the last track, a burning track called 'Give It To Me While It's Hot'. Another cool track, it ties up the end of '3D'. This album has one cohesive theme to it - TLC. The three girls, their sound, their work. And it's very good. A great album, and a noteable effort from a group who've had so much drama. I'm digging '3D'.

- The smoothness still flows like wine....
TLC maybe minus one member, due to tragic circumstances (for those of you who've had their head buried on Mars, that's Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes) but thank god most of this album was recorded before her death, as it would be a miscarriage of justice not to see a fine album like this being released. Ten years after TLC first arrive on the music scene, and it shows they can still carry their powerful voices through the Ashantis' & Alicia Keys'of 2002. The album is a kind of extension of 'FanMail' which experiments in futuristic-retro sounds. This is how the tracks rate:

1.3D:Intro (I can't really rate that for you, but if I did it would be about a 7).

2.Quickie: A fresh-sounding song about a boy who met T-Boz/Left Eye/Chilli (delete most unimaginable) on a summer fling and left her abrubtly. Has a catchy hook, and of course the distinguishing TLC sound. 8/10

3.Girl Talk: As far as this song goes, the lyrics make it kind of like No Scrubs part 2, but the actual song is nothing to scream about. It's probably not an accurate representation of how good the album is. 7/10

4.Turntable: a good strong ballad song, which I presume was written in tribute to Left Eye. It's about how life is unfair now, but one day everything will be different. Considering this song is produced by Rodney Jerkins (see Brandy or Toni Braxton), it's a bit of a different approach for him. 8/10

5.In Your Arms Tonight: Another tried 'N' tested Neptunes production, which is probably less romantic (what it aims to be) and more flat (what it is). It does nothing to extend or fuse their vocals, I'm sure the girls could have done better. 5/10

6.Over Me: Smooth & sexy, back to the typical TLC formula. It's another 'Rodney' production and it's about how a guy has gotta get over the girl, cos she knows she's to good for him. Pretty good. 8.5/10

7.Hands Up: Song of the album or what??? I've always loved TLC slow jams and this one is no exception. The pure classiness of these three ladies comes out on this track, which produces perfect harmony about a guy who gets his game on behind his girl's back. They have to release this, as it is just dynamite! 10/10

8.Damaged: This is an Unpretty-esque song, in a similar vein about a girl who's afraid to fall in love again after being hurt emotionally in a previous relationsip. You have to love this song, as it is typivval TLC, and back to the original (and still the best) old skool style. 9/10

9.Dirty Dirty: As you've probably guessed by the title, this is a Timbaland production, and it's pretty dope, but the lyrics are a bit sparse, as it has no particular focus apart from 'gettin down'. Sit back, enjoy the ride and bounce to the beat (as well as the hollas by Missy Elliot throughout. 7.5/10

10.So So Dumb: Another slow jam about this girl T-Boz/Lef Eye/Chilli is cheating on with her boyfriend, and how she's so beautiful, but yet so foolish not to notice. Pretty good, but nothing groundbreaking. 7/10

11.Good Love: Sounds a bit like Waterfalls, but goes tor a totally different vibe. Pretty good song for chilling, driving in the car, or 'gettin' in tha mood'. Nuff-said. 8/10

12.Hey Hey Hey Hey: Another 'get out of my house' kind of song. It sounds like it should have been made for someone else, but T-Boz vocals carry the tune out pretty well, if you like that kind of thing. 7/10

13.Give It To Me While It's Hot:A good song about a boy with bad intentions and a girl who's not ready for what she's about to get, but acts like she is. I like Left Eye's narrative bit in the middle which makes her sound a bit like Eminem lyrically (which isn't a bad thing). 8.5/10

Overall it's another high production album from the trio, but it has a kind air of tradgedy about it, to think it may be their last. It's more futuristic than FanMail, but it still maintains that sassiness and sexuality of any hot TLC production, and I can safely say that even with all the manufacturing and overproduction you don't have to listen to it in a certain way, unlike most albums.
