"Unglamorous" by Lori McKenna

Country chanteuse Lori McKenna arrives with big-name backing: in addition to supporting Faith Hill and Tim McGraw on tour, McKenna's major label debut boasts cameos from the duo as well as production duties by McGraw. But while the stars' fare tends toward the slicker end of the modern country scale, McKenna aims for the everywoman touch with a collection rooted in the realities of blue-collar life. Delivered with a rich, textured tone, McKenna's songs are thoughtful and consistent but often lack immediate spark. Title track "Unglamorous" is a spirited ode to the real life of "no frills, no fuss," while "How to Survive" tracks the slow deterioration of a relationship with "a stone wall, impossible to break through." While this heavy-handed emotionalism can be tiring, there's something to McKenna's sincerity—it works best on slower tracks like "Your Next Lover," which uses harmonies from McGraw and a contemplative string section to elevate the cheating ballad
