15 December t.A.T.u. will release their album "Waste Management" in Brazil, Argentina and Chile Location: Río de Janeiro
We are excited to announce the release of the English
version of t.A.T.u.’s[1] Happy Smiles album in Latin
America. It was decided to switch the LP’s name from
“Happy Smiles”[2], under which it first saw the light
in Russia in 2008, back to the name of the early days
of album’s production – Waste Management.
Actually the time has come to say it straight the
“Happy Smiles” name was nothing more than a joke
addressed to the t.A.T.u. fans’ sense of humor. Really,
this album was all about “Unhappily Unsmiling” in its
very essence. To be more precise, it was Waste
Management.
WM will be released by the Brazilian label Coqueiro
Verde Records in Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
Waste Management is not just a mere Happy Smiles’
clone.
“You should listen to this version of our LP non-stop at
least once to feel what we tried to create. We call
this version “pinkfloydish” among us”, explains Lena
Katina. “Pink Floyd was not the only band who did it
this way, but we can say it was them who inspired us.
Waste Management has got all songs bound together
by short instrumental interludes composed by our
author Evgeniy Matveitsev. This version of the LP is
one continuous music trip”.
The concept of continuity was also applied to the
work on music videos: The Sparks (220) imagery
flows smoothly into the Snowfalls (Snegopady)
video.
All of the WM tracks were re-recorded in the English
language, except Martian Eyes. English lyrics
translated from Russian by Leonid Aleksandrovsky,
go far beyond the original Russian lyrics of the
album.
The album includes a number of remixes including a
remix by Russian dj and musician Fly_Dream who
happen to be familiar to t.A.T.u. followers already,
and also a remix by a new American author dj
Sniper.
“We made our album more than just musically
enriched, we have also changed its design – cover,
booklet”, says Yulia Volkova. “While preparing this
release we understood that everybody was a bit
bored by the existed artwork. So now, instead of
astronauts and Martian landscapes, look for the two
trash-styled girls in shabby coats on the cover!”
