Veterans Clarence Paul and Henry Cosby were Stevie's main musical tutors and producers in the mid sixties. And how respectfully it shows on this compilation.
Great real R&B tracks from the album "I was made to love her", like "Respect"and "My girl" - they alone are worth this buy. "Trav'lin Man" is a widely overlooked 45 in the "A place in the sun" vein and was always sadly missed on compilations over the years. It's nice to hear Little Steve try some C&W in "Sunset". "Love a Go-Go" is one of my all time stompers from the "Uptight" album. Here you have The Funk Bros at their very best.
Although in "You met your match" Stevie is sounding like trying to catch his very breath, this compilation is a daring and very welcome one. They should keep this French A&R manager in honor!
