- Stevie's Solo Debut Stuns the Disbelievers

Those who thought that Stevie Nicks would not make it as a solo artist in 1981 were without a doubt proved wrong. Stevie went on to have her debut album reach number one on the Billboard charts, and eventually receive a cult following who would remain loyal to her for years. This video, "White-winged Dove", chronicles that dramatic year for Stevie on tour. Throughout the video, not only does Stevie give warm and heartfelt performances, she also charms her audience with her hits from the band that helped to shoot her to superstardom, Fleetwood Mac. This is Stevie Nicks at her best. Keeping her performance electrifying, you'll never know what she's going to do next. Unlike the more disappointing Red Rocks video, this seems just like what you would see at a Stevie Nicks concert, without all of the glitzy footage and camerawork that accompanied Red Rocks. If ever one was to purchase a Stevie Nicks video tape, this would be my first recommendation.

- A touching and heartfelt performance by Stevie Nicks.

After watching this video, my heart aches for Stevie during this tragic time in her life. I believe this may have been recorded right after the death of her best friend Robin Anderson from leukemia. (In fact, I believe that that was the reason the tour was cut short.) As a result, every song is FULL of emotion, especially Dreams, Edge of Seventeen and Rhiannon. At the end of the concert, Stevie is crying and you can tell that she appreciates her audience being there for her in this time of distress. A bonus to this video is the introduction by her father. I also found that very touching. Definitely worth owning

- This is a must have!

Stevie sounded so good! Although some of the music for Gold Dust Woman was off Stevie was great! Tom Petty did sound better on Stop Draggin' My Heart Around but it wasn't that bad. My favorite part was when she sang Rhiannon! I cried and I was so surprised how emotional Stevie got. You have to love her!

- True romantics and "daydream believers", listen up!

The "In Concert (White Wing Dove)" video captures Stevie Nicks at her absolute best. In 1982, as a veteran of Fleetwood Mac, she is a polished artist with a trademark style who has mastered the subtleties of captivating an audience. And yet she is a novice to solo performing, which lends a poignant innocence and freshness to this concert that are never duplicated in her later videos. The artificial "glitz" of studio videos, as well as the sometimes raucous and nerve-jangling frenetic energy of a "Red Rocks" style "Nicks-In" extravaganza, are thankfully missing from the "White Wing Dove" tape. The watchwords for the "White Wing Dove" production are simplicity, honesty and intimacy. The cameras mostly focus in close on Stevie, with the overriding objective of showcasing her breathtaking beauty and artistry unadulterated by extraneous distractions. In this setting, Stevie Nicks casts a spell that is totally engaging and truly unforgettable. The song set is classic Nicks - the best from "Bella Donna" and Fleetwood Mac with a couple of interesting additions - but the impact is timeless. My only criticisms of this otherwise "perfect 10" tape are the inclusion of mood-disrupting backstage footage before the encore (you see Stevie out of stage character), and the cutting of the beautiful "Leather and Lace" rendition, which reappears incongruously on the later 1986 "I Can't Wait" studio compilation video.

- Take THAT disbelievers!

To start off, this video is absolutely great. It has s o much energy, and the supporting band is a completely classy act of extremely talented and unique performers. I found it hard to believe this video was her first solo tour when I first watched it, because she was oozing so much confidence, and looked so experienced. Stevie's voice really slams all the notes in every song, (except "Dreams"), and it truly is a pleasure to watch all the way through. She mixes her new songs with a few older Fleetwood Mac numbers : "Sara" 'Rhiannon" "Dreams" and "Gold Dust Woman", and all of these excel past the 'Fleetwood Mac Live!" album, not that "Gold Dust Woman" was on that one, but it is still really good. The only disappointment on this video in my opinion is "Dreams", which is just truly truly awful. The rhythm is off, her tone is definitely off, and the back up singers join the chorus at the wrong pitch repeatedly. Also the upper notes have gone, which is a shame, and really puts this rendition at a disadvantage. Her new songs include : "Edge of Seventeen" "Gold and Braid", which are both EXCEPTIONALLY good, "Outside the Rain", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", and Tom Petty cover "I Need To Know". Her outfits are always interesting, and her dance moves are always enjoyable to watch, so as she has lots of costume changes and dances a lot, this is a damn good video all round! An ABSOLUTE must for ANY Stevie Nicks fan of ANY degree, as it marks her serious talent for performing, and shows off her wonderful songs in their brightest light. Rock On ..
