Review - Amazon.com
Expounding on the theme from their hit "Walking on the Sun" (from the multiplatinum Fush Yu Mang), the verbose songs on Astro Lounge are filled with examinations of societal ills, personal woes, and other disappointments entailed in this thing known as Humanity. Yes, the album would seem heavy-handed were not the overriding sentiments filtered through Smash Mouth's "Hey, dude, let's party!" brand of musical optimism. Ranging from reggae to lounge to psychedelia to surfer rock to a sort of punk-a-go-go, Smash Mouth's influences have little in common with one another save for one important exception--they all evoke images of personal freedom and defiance of oppression, reminding us that, gee, fighting the Man can actually be raucous good fun! It's been a long time since a band with this much commercial potential could say something thought-provoking and get the party going. On "All Star," Steve Harwell sings, "Only shooting stars break the mold." A fitting prophecy for this outstanding alterna-pop album. --Beth Massa

- Absolutely Awesome

Never before has a group made so many amazingly catchy songs on one album alone. "All Star" is definitely the lead song on this album. Though its overplayed now, it still rules. It's not Smash Mouth's fault the song is overplayed, its our fault. Because we love it so much. Then of course there's "Diggin' Your Scene" and "Then the Morning Comes" and the retro-style "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby". This CD is great for anyone of any age. No Explicit Content like their first album "Fush Yu Mang" had. And for Smash Mouth fans who say they "sold out", there's a new CD amazon.com is carrying by Smash Mouth called "East Bay Sessions" where they return to their usual style of punk rock. Anyways, if you loved "Walkin' on the Sun", you'll love Smash Mouth's follow-up to the success of that song.

- Smashmouth Proves to be more than a one hit wonder

After their smash hit, walking on the sun, I, as did most, expected smashmouth to fade into one-hit-wonder-dom and never be heard from again, then with "Can't get enough of you baby" and now Astrounge, Smashmouth is, without a doubt, a band with real musical talent. Although their hit single, "Allstar" was a good song, it was played ad nausium on the radio, and if I never hear it again, it will be too soon, but the CD is an extremely good one. With its upbeat diverse and catchy tunes, Astolounge was a sound investment.

- Great CD

This is a great CD. I'd suggest it to most people, and there is no foul language or anything so it would be ok for little kids.

- Altogether a great CD.

This is a GrEaT CD! I primarily bought it for the ever-famous All Star, and the less famous Can't Get Enough of You (Baby), but then after I played it a couple of times, I decided that I liked most of the other songs, with the exception of Stoned. After I checked it out, I found that Roadman (track 10) is a great song, once I read the lyrics. The lyrics are a very welcome addition in the front cover insert. This CD is great for older children (8+). There is no explicit content, but it is hard to understand. I did find myself hearing more shouting than singing, but just a little bit more. Even if you're just looking for 1 or 2 songs, BUY THIS CD! Also best for music newbies.

- Smash Mouth may stray from the first cd, but in a good way

What can I say, except a truly exceptional album. Every song provides a perfect cadence right into the next one. Even the relatively slow, moody songs "Waste" and "Home" do nothing to dampen the "let's get up and party!" vibe that true movers like "All Star", "Radio", "Road Man", and the album's sure pick for best overall "Diggin' Your Scene" create and pull the listener into. Each song has a style all its own and yet somehow doesn't stray far from one very good formula: FUN. If you can't listen to Astro Lounge and feel at least a bit hyped up, you're a real gloom & doomer. Yet again, opinions are only that, buy it and see for yourself, even if you don't find yourself pepped up, it is still a solid collection of songs from a band who deserves to be around for a long time.
