- Who Is By Your Side???
I would like to start by saying that I was apprehensive of purchasing any type of music from Sade, but in the end I made a great choice by purchasing this single. I like "By Your Side" because I think it is a beautiful song with old flavor. However, I am a remix addict and when I found this maxi-single with remixes I was amazed. The remixes answered all my questions about this song being on the Dance charts. I mean it is a great slow dance song but with a few of these remixes it is a great mid-tempo dance track.

Track Listing:

1.) By Your Side (Album Version) 4:17 = This is the original version that helped Sade make a comeback, and made you all fall in love with her music again. This song is a great slow dance song and would probably make a great wedding song too.

2.) By Your Side (The Neptunes Remix) 3:57 = This remix is more up-tempo than the original but still is very classic and sensual. What I like most about this remix is they changed the beat but still left her beautiful voice original and didn't edit it like they do on most remixes by adding echo's and stuff.

3.) By Your Side (Yard Mix 1) 4:18 = This remix is leaning towards the R&B side, but still keeping Sade's voice natural except for a few exceptional echo's. This remix has more of a dance feeling, but you will notice that when you listen to this maxi-single the remixes get more dance like as it nears the end.

4.) Bye Your Side (Reggae Mix 1) 3:57 = Now this remix is the most danceable remix on this single, but I don't feel that this remix deserves to be called a reggae mix because after listening to it, it doesn't sound that reggae to me. I mean this remix does feature reggae influences but it not completely reggae. Regardless of the reggae situation I still favor this remix better than the other ones, even though they are all great remixes.

For some reason this song reminds me of a wedding song, maybe its because my brother is getting married soon. This is a very sad song and I love Sade's beautiful voice that is way beyond better than what words can explain. This song would also be a great theme for ya'll lovers out there, it just beautiful and sad but most of all inspirational. I recommend this song to anyone that believes in love and has a heart! Go Buy This Single!

- Standard remixes for a beautiful song
Well, the release of this maxi-single is a weird decision on Sony's part. Firstly, By Your Side wasnt so well-received at radio, and perhaps, this maxi may help it up a little. The good news is the album has been steady in the top 15 for as long as it was released, not bad for a group whose last studio effort was a distant 9 years ago. Secondly, the maxi isnt different from the international ones. With the exception of the Reggae Mix, the Yard Mix 1 and Neptunes Mix sound almost identical to the origianl beauty on the album. For fans who were hoping that the US edition may contain the much-anticiapted Ben Watt Mix of By Your Side, be disappointed cos the best remix isnt gonna be available commercially, at least for now. If Sony ever decides to release another commercial single off the album, which I doubt so, it may find its way there. Otherwise, live with some of these mediocre mixes.

- Exquisite!!!!
Having always been a fan of Sade's, I never thought that I could love her music even more. Then I heard the single "By Your Side." This song is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. The lyrics and Sade's voice evoke such strong emotions that you can literally feel the words. The music is also very ethereal and whimsical. I love everything about this song! This is one song you don't want to miss out on! Buy this single!

- Come on, I'm not dead yet!
Sadly, Sade's music has slowed to the point of death. This song may have nice lyrics, but I'm a fan of mid-80's Sade, not rest-home Sade. The re-mixes on this CD are tired, mechanical, even laughable. However, the Ben Watt remix is *sterling* (if only it could be found on this disc)! Ben gives the song energy; combined with the great lyrics, you have a meaty song worth your money. Don't waste it on this disc.

- By Your Side...
''By Your Side'' is really the only song I like by Sade, her other work is rather too much for my tastes. Nevertheless, it is one of the most flawless song's I've ever heard, with lyrics like ''You think I'd leave you down, when you're down on your knees'' (OK- this song has the same concept in mind as Shania Twain's ''From This Moment'' both songs are beautiful). It's not one of these depressing late night songs, it however the opposite, it's beautiful, with a voice that is so sedative and pleasing.

The first time I heard this song playing, was when I was watching one of the ''Sex And The City'' episodes, and this song came on during one of the scenes, well I flew up from my chair, the song was so overwhelming, that the following week I had rushed out to the music store, and got myself the CD single.

Look...I am a fan of remixes, I have had allot of experiences with remixes and the ones included here are however nothing special. The CD features Neptune (who has also done a standard quantity of promo work for Alicia Keys and Madonna), he never really changes a song, all his mixes are just enhancements, with a few beats thrown in, hardly anything else is done, he makes a mix that would easily be considered as a (Edit).

The (Yard Mix) is however the weakest here, It's rather like R&B verses Trip-Hop <---Something bland and fake sounding.

The (Reggae Mix) is average...I don't really think this mix was a good idea, it's supposed to sound like reggae, whatever the hell they call it-----ehhhhh not so good.

I also do not understand something else. The cool remix that plays on the radio is not included here!!?....Ben Watt (From Everything But The Girl) made a real cool mix for this song, and (apparently) it is not commercial and was only a radio promo....Well to hell with that!.

The album version, is the best on this CD. This is the kind of song like (Madonna's ''Power Of Goodbye'') that is not for remixing, and not for the clubs or enhancements.

The only reason I'm giving this album 5 stars is for the (album version). Whoever decided to single out Ben Watt's remix- made a grave mistake, shame on you!.
