Guitar Lesson Learn Fix It by Ryan Adams How To Play
This is a lesson on how to play the song Fix It by Ryan Adams and The Cardinals off of the CD entitled Cardinology. This lesson is taken from the video off The Cardinals performing this song on Letterman. That video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si14rmNJcvA This lesson will cover several topics including : guitar riffs, solo (s), chords, grips, shapes, pentatonic scales, techniques, and how to perform this song. Guitar 1 (Ryan Adams) is panned left with a gritty, ES-335 type overdriven sound. Played with a heavy-handed riff style for the verse, the chorus switches to a more airy strum. And don't forget the reverb! Guitar 2 is panned right with a clean, chorused Les Paul sound with some reverb and a slapback delay. It has a nice bright tone, with some overdrive kicked on for the solo at the end. The chorus in the song should be arpeggiated on this guitar to provide a nice flowing sound. The solo is blues-based and very greasy, meaning it uses a lot of slurs (term for notes not picked, i.e. slides, bends, hammer-ons, and pull-offs). The solo live is dirtier (having more overdrive) than the one on the record, and also more complex. I find both to be wonderful, but the live solo really moves me.
