Review - Amazon.com :
It's been said that no one sold out his talent like Rod Stewart, who began his career singing Sam Cooke numbers in a way that would have impressed Sam Cooke's mother. But Stewart has always been a pop animal no matter how soulful his chops and he's often at his best when primping in front of the microphone trying to make himself sound pretty. "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" may seem ridiculous, but it's five-plus minutes of melodramatic tension, caught between self-love and self-parody. "I Was Only Joking" is Rod's warning to the world that "Hot Legs" and its ilk will soon be his modus operandi. "I Don't Want to Talk About It" and "You're in My Heart" are as sincere as he gets. --Rob O'Connor

- Doesn't Match Up with the Title
Rod Stewart had charted 20 singles when this CD was put out, and in retrospect, the 10 chosen for the album simply don't hold up well. "Maggie May" is the only genuine hit released between 1971 - 6 that makes it onto the CD, leaving out such popular favorites as "Reason to Believe," "I Know I'm Losing You," "You Wear It Well," "Twisting the Night Away," and "This Old Heart of Mine." But that's just one problem: Rod's biggest hit ever, "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)," is trimmed down considerably, ousting the French whispers supplied on the original version by Britt Ekland. Also, some non-top 40 tracks somehow made the cut: "Sailing" and "I Don't Want to Talk About It," which are fine, but certainly not worthy enough to be on a CD bearing this title. Dedicated Rod fanatics should get the originals.

- Rod Stewart - ROCK GOD
This compilation is only a sampler of the simply awesome, mean brutish heavy metal that Rod Stewart has been hammering out from years. Coming from that same grimy working class town that produced lesser metal gods such as Black Sabbath, Stewart is all amped up on the hard rocking "Hot Legs" a tribute to well, er legs. The power ballad "Maggie May" still manages to rock out. Then there's the metal anthem "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" that Christian evangelists tried to ban. Then there's the rock ANTHEMS "You're In My Heart" and "Sailing" (not the same as the inferior Styx version) and the pulsating "I Don't Want To Talk About It." Heavy Metal Rod nearly burns his vocal chords out on the sizzling "Tonight's The Night" and then there is of course, that epic to end all epics, "The Killing of Georgie." Jimmy Page was inspired to write "Stairway" after he heard this one. True story. This greatest hits compilation is rounded out by the death metal standards "First Cut Is The Deepest" and "I was Only Joking." If you really want to rock out, get a hold of Metal Rod's latest collection of cover songs. It will blow your mind. Rock on, dudes.

- Rod the mod.
At this point, there are numerous collections out of Rod Stewart. This original "Greatest Hits" has alot of the good stuff, but since it was a vinyl era release, we only get 10 tracks. Even twice the number of songs would still be the basics. This disc also needs remastering desperately. It plays much quieter than most of my other CDs. I wont even begin to mention what's missing here, I'll just say that the most casual fan would still enjoy this. Anyone else should look into "The Very Best Of", or even the "Downtown Train" collection.

- Greatest Hits Rod Stewart
My major complaint is the quality of this CD. The volumn is very low compared to other CDs. After turning the volumn up so I could hear it, I enjoyed the songs. I wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I bought this CD!

- Needs remastering
This collection is great, but it really does need to be remastered or something. The sound quality is not the best. A lot lower than other cds, so not a good one to have in a mix and put on random, as you will have to turn up the volume for every song that comes up from this album. Better to be played by itself, so you can turn up the volume and not worry. Apart from that there are some good songs here, great songs even, and I'm sure most fans of Rod would love this cd.
