Live Rückkehr der Soundpioniere aus Bristol

Lange mussten die Fans sich gedulden, um "ihre" Band endlich wieder live erleben zu können - hier kommt die gute Nachricht: Das Warten hat ein Ende! Wir freuen uns, die einzige Solo-Headline-Show von PORTISHEAD am 18.6.2013 auf der Zitadelle Berlin/Spandau ankündigen zu dürfen!

Die 1991 von Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons und Adrian Utley gegründete Band hat sich zwar nach dem kleinen Geburtsstädtchen von Geoff „Portishead‘‘ benannt, aber immer weitaus größer gedacht - und einen völlig eigenen Musikstil und Sound kreiert. Die Mischung aus elektronischer Musik, schleppenden Downbeats bis hin zu avantgardistischen Soundlandschaften, stets gekrönt von der Stimme Beth Gibbons, schlug 1994 mit dem Debut "Dummy" ein wie eine Bombe und wurde kürzlich in die Rolling Stone Liste der "500 Best Albums Of All Time" aufgenommen. Singles wie "Numb", Sour Times" und "Glory Box" bescherten Portishead nicht nur in Europa, sondern auch den USA eine riesige Fangemeinde.

1997 folgte dann mit "Portishead" der Nachfolger, der eine etwas härtere und sperrigere Richtung einschlug, was der Popularität jedoch keinen Abbruch tat. Auch hier wurden drei Singles ausgekoppelt "All Mine", "Over" und "Only You". 1998 erschien mit "Roseland NYC Live" eine Liveaufnahme mit den New York Philharmonic Orchestra aus dem Roseland Ballroom, welche die Songs in einem Orchester Arrangement präsentierte - und leider für längere Zeit das letzte Lebenszeichen von Portishead bleiben sollte, vom „Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man‘‘ Album, das Gibbons mit dem ehemaligen Talk Talk Bassisten Paul Webb aka Rustin Man in 2003 veröffentlichte. mal abgesehen.

2008 erschien dann endlich das dritte Album, schlicht "Third" betitelt. Danach trat die Band live nur noch auf Festivals und kleineren Tourneen oder als Kuratoren der renommierten „All Tomorrows Parties‘‘ Reihe in Erscheinung. 2009 machte Geoff Barrow mit seiner Band Beak von sich reden, und ließ Ende 2011 gegenüber dem Rolling Stone verlauten, dass er begonnen hätte, an Material zu arbeiten, das für ein neues Portishead Album gedacht sein könnte - was jedoch nicht heißen würde, dass es nicht vielleicht dennoch weitere 10 Jahre dauern könnte, bevor auch wirklich ein neues Album veröffentlicht werden würde. Es bleibt also weiterhin ungewiss - allerdings: Wer solche Alben im Programm hat, die man getrost als Klassiker bezeichnen darf, kann auch gern ohne neues Material für Live Konzerte regelmäßig wiederkommen.

Wir freuen uns drauf - und die Fangemeinde mit Sicherheit auch. Und wer weiß? - Vielleicht gibt es ja bei den Shows doch schon Neues zu hören??

Portishead poprvé v České republice! 19. června v Praze

Slavná britská trip hopová kapela Portishead vystoupí 19. června poprvé v České republice! V rámci evropského turné zahraje v pražské Tipsport Areně (HC Sparta) na Výstavišti v Holešovicích. „Jsme rádi, že se Portishead připojí ke jménům jako Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, The National nebo Morrissey, které jsme přivezli do České republiky také poprvé,“ říká Nick Hobbs z pořádající agentury Charm Music. Portishead založili v roce 1991 zpěvačka Beth Gibbons s klávesistou a multiinstrumentalistou Geoffem Barrowem, který formaci pojmenoval po pobřežním městečku kousek od Bristolu, kde vyrůstal.
V roce 1994 vydali Portishead debutové album Dummy, které se ve Velké Británii, i přes nechuť členů kapely k rozhovorům v médiích, setkalo až s nečekaným ohlasem – jak u posluchačů, tak i kritiků, kdy deska získala prestižní Mercury Music Prize. Krátce po jejím vydání se třetím oficiálním členem kapely stal kytarista Adrian Utley, který album koprodukoval a také hrál ve většině skladeb.
O tři roky později vyšlo druhé, eponymní, album. Od roku 1999 se členové věnovali vlastním sólovým projektům a producentské práci. V roce 2005 se Portishead opět dali dohromady a poprvé po sedmi letech koncertovali v Bristol Academy na benefičním koncertě pro oběti tsunami v roce 2004. Třetí studiové album pod příznačným názvem Third vyšlo v dubnu 2008.

25 czerwca w nowohuckiej hali ocynowni ArcelorMittal Poland wielkie wydarzenie: koncert brytyjskiego zespołu Portishead. Występ będzie zapowiedzią tegorocznej edycji festiwalu Sacrum Profanum (14-21 września).

Jest zaledwie kilka zespołów, które na Festiwalu Sacrum Profanum musiały się pojawić. Portishead, który obecnie przygotowuje swój czwarty album studyjny, jest jednym z nich. Wyjątkowa formacja w wyjątkowym miejscu - hali ocynowni ArcelorMittal Poland. Najpewniej jedno z najważniejszych wydarzeń koncertowych tego roku. Zapraszamy.

Jak podkreśla Izabela Helbin, dyrektor Krakowskiego Biura Festiwalowego, trudno wyobrazić sobie lepszą zapowiedź festiwalu. – Po raz pierwszy w historii Sacrum Profanum, po dziesięciu zorganizowanych już edycjach, zdecydowaliśmy się zmodyfikować formułę wydarzenia. Festiwal zapowiadamy już nie tylko kampanią promocyjną. Teraz zapraszają na niego gwiazdy światowego formatu.

Zespół Portishead powstał w 1991 r w Bristolu. Założyli go multiinstrumentalista Geoff Barrow i wokalistka Beth Gibbons, do których dołączył gitarzysta Adrian Utley. Historia zespołu zaczęła się od nagrania ścieżki dźwiękowej do filmu To Kill A Dead Man. W 1994 r. wydali, przyjęty entuzjastycznie przez publiczność i krytyków, album Dummy (zawierający m.in. przebój Glory Box). Kolejna, wydana w 1997 r. płyta Portishead (1997) nie przebiła sukcesu debiutanckiego albumu, ale ugruntowała mocną pozycję zespołu na światowej scenie muzycznej.

Rok później, po wydaniu płyty Roseland NYC Live, zespół zawiesił działalność i muzycy powrócili do współpracy dopiero siedem lat później. W 2005 r. spotkali się, aby zagrać koncert na rzecz ofiar tsunami w Azji. W 2008 r. ukazał się ich ostatni do tej pory album Third.

Muzycy Portishead chętnie angażują się w działania propagujące tolerancję i prawa człowieka. Nagrali m.in. specjalny utwór dla organizacji Amnesty International, a Geoff Barrow był kierownikiem muzycznym filmu Wyjście przez sklep z pamiątkami - filmowego debiutu brytyjskiego artysty graffitti Banksy’ego.
Krakowskiej publiczności doskonale znany jest gitarzysta grupy Adrian Utley. Dwa lata temu wystąpił na Festiwalu Sacrum Profanum w finałowym koncercie Reich 75, a w ramach festiwalu Misteria Paschalia - wspólnie z Willem Gregorym z Goldfrapp – zaprezentował poruszającą muzykę do niemego filmu Męczeństwo Joanny d’Arc.

Muzycy Portishead pracują teraz nad swoją czwartą studyjną płytą.
