| Queen, Pat Benatar and Whitney Houston were just a few of the ladies' song choices for their '80s performance night. The pressure was intense as the Final 8 "American Idol" gals took the stage for their last shot at making it into the Top 12. As did the guys on Tuesday night, the ladies made their song choices from tunes from the '80s -- everything from WHITNEY HOUSTON to PHIL COLLINS. Receiving unanimous kudos from the judges was AMANDA OVERMYER, but BROOKE WHITE also did well in the judging. ASIA'H EPPERSON kicked off the night with Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." RANDY JACKSON reminded us, "I have said it a couple of times, but I recorded that song with the great Whitney Houston. It was a tall order for you to take on, but that is why we got you here. You proved that you have the right to be here. That was hot." PAULA ABDUL agreed, saying, "I wondered, 'Asia'h is picking big songs. Can she pull it off?' You nailed it." SIMON COWELL, however, wasn't so easily won over. He said, "At best, it was second rate Whitney Houston. You couldn't hit the big notes at the end." That said, he did admit that Asia'h is good enough for the Top 12. |
