Review - Amazon.com :
Maybe hanging out with Jello Biafra put the fun-loving spring in Offspring's step. Or perhaps it was just the royalty checks, hot babes, and fast cars. Whatever the case, the band's fourth record, Americana, is its most lively offering to date, replacing angst and rage with energy and sarcasm. The novelty single "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" matches infectious riffing and shout-along vocals with fly-girl chants of "Give it to me, baby" and lyrics about wannabe scenesters; and a storming punk-rock version of Morris Albert's "Feelings" sees the band hitting a new level of, er, (in)sensitivity. Elsewhere, the humor is slightly more subtle; "She's Got Issues" cops a new-wave guitar line from the Cars songbook, "The Kids Aren't Alright" opens like an Iron Maiden anthem, and "Why Don't You Get a Job?" is a blatant reggae-style spoof of the Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da." Musically, Americana offers no real revelations, but the songs are a bit craftier and more diverse than the rest of the Offspring oeuvre, veering haphazardly between anthemic punk metal, blistering hardcore, and near-psychedelic experimentation. --Jon Wiederhorn

- A Nice Offspring Album
Alright, this is not just a great album, but a really great album. It has a hard time staying out of my cd player. Every song deserves to be on the radio, and four of them already are. The Offspring have also created very creative lyrics for Americana.

Welcome is a short intro that does a good job starting off the album. Have You Ever is a great song that has a nice, singable melody that you will sing for months. Staring At The Sun is a pretty good song with a nice tune to it that you will also be singing for months. Pretty Fly, one of the singles from the album that is probobaly the most well known, is a great rock song with a pop twist to it. The Kids Aren't Alright, another single from the album, is another song with a great melody that you will be singing for weeks or months on end. Feelings is a good rock song filled with a lot of angst. She's Got Issues, another single from the album, is a great song with a really great melody. Walla Walla is another good song that isn't full of angst but it isn't full of angst. The End Of The Line is a really good song that is very tragic. No Brakes is a great, fast-paced song with a nice chorus. Why Don't You Get A Job, another single, is a pop song that gets boring after listening to it too much but it is still a good song. Americana is a good rock song with a lot of angst. Pay The Man is an OK song with a wierd Egyptian melody.

I have no favorite songs from this album, they are all favorites of mine. This album has some swears but not many. (Note: if you listen past Pay The Man you will hear a version of Pretty Fly with Spanish backround noises.)

- The Offspring - Americana
Criticism is abundant when it comes to this release from Dexter and the boys. "They've sold out"..."They're turned into a pop group". Nonsense, I say. Admittedly, a lot of the tracks are far less raucous than their previous work, but if people were to look past this, they'd find that the lyrics are just as intelligent and witty as ever.

'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)' is a long-awaited mockery of the hip-hop culture, 'Walla Walla' deals with crime and the consequences and 'Americana' shows us that The American Dream isn't all it's cracked up to be. While it may not be up to scratch with neither 'Smash' or 'Ixnay On The Hombre', this is still a great listen and deserves to be included in every Offspring fan's collection.

- Punk Sucks!
With all the "punk" fans out there trashing Americana, I'm not so sure I WANT to buy the other Offspring CDs. Every track on Americana is awesome, like Pretty Fly, Why Don't You Get A Job, Walla Walla, The Kids Aren't Alright, and Feelings. Everyone should buy this CD. It rocks!

- I think this is a great CD, full of energy...
I've heard over time that a lot of Offspring's fans find this CD to be a sell-out. What can I say? I have the "Smash" release, and I love it, too. "Americana" is full of energy and humor. What's not to love?

"She's Got Issues" is hysterical, wreaking of truth. The same can be said for "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" and "Why Don't You Get a Job?." The CD flows nicely from the one song to the next. Just because it's catchy doesn't make the band a sell-out. Sometimes the best thing a band can do is acknowledge life experience. With experience comes change.

Without question. I believe that Offspring is one of the best contemporary, punk style bands; that includes their release of "Americana."

- Not the best but give the boys credit
Me myself am a HUGE Offspring fan, and after four great 5-star albums, I was totally psyched to find that the Offspring had a new album was coming out. I picked it up the day it came out, and I must say I am rather dissapointed. Gone are the teen angst punk riffs and lyrics. Here is the newer side of the Offspring, the sarcastic, catchier version of the Offspring. No more songs like "All I Want" and "The Meaning Of Life". In are the super catchy and funny "Pretty Fly" and "Why Don't You Get A Job". While I miss the punk myself, this is pretty dang catchy if I do say so myself. I have been humming the "Give it to me baby" line every day since I first heard it. Dexter still has that whiny voice that everybody loves, and it seems as if Noodles has improved since the self-titled days. Here is a run-down of the songs on a scale or 1 to 5... 1. Welcome-Like always, the Offspring have "the voice" doing the first track of the album. I won't give this a rating 2.Have You Ever-The album starts off good with the best track on the album. This track probably resembles the old Offspring style the best. Whiny vocals, pounding drums, ahhh it brings me back to the days of "Smash" (5/5) 3. Staring At The Sun-Starts slow, then gains speed as the song goes on. My complaint is that the Offspring only thought of two verses for this song. They sang both verses twice! The drums are very good on this song (4/5) 4. Pretty Fly-Catchy as anything I've ever heard, I must admit I like this song. Everybody knows what it sounds like (4.5/5) 5. The Kid's Aren't Alright-Another good punky song. Awesome riffs by Noodles, nice whiny vocals by Dexter (5/5) 6. Feelings-I dont care for this song, it sorta sounds like the before track, A.F.I. vocalist Davey Havoc stars for a little on this track (3/5) 7. She's Got Issues-Another catchy song, resembles the Cars alot (3.5/5) 8. Walla Walla-I LIKE THIS SONG. The vocals are funny, and I absolutely love the chorus (4.5/5) 9. End Of The Line-Another cool punky song, about the death of a friend, Havoc also screams on this track at the end (4/5) 10. No Brakes-Fastest song on the album, this song has a very very good bass line in it by Greg K. Reminds me of "All I Want" for some reason...(4/5) 11. Why Don't You Get A Job-Catchy, catchy, catchy (4.5/5) 12. Americana-The title tracks are always good, intro is cool, awesome chorus (5/5) 13. Pay The Man-1st half egyptian stuff that gets a (1/5), 2nd half is old-school Offspring (4/5)...total (2.5/5) Secret Track-Stupid version of PFFAWG (1/5) It's a different side of the Offspring, but everybody should like it.
