Description :
A gentle giant of a southern man, Otis helped define gospel-rooted 60's soul, and his influence as a singer, writer, and performer remains deep and wide. Witness classics like '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay', 'Try A Little Tenderness', 'I Can't Turn You Loose' and 'Respect'. Remastered. 2002.Customer review - 2002-09-03
- Slim pickingsIn a world full of Otis Redding anthologies, why would anyone want to pick up this cynically meager disc? If you have a limited budget, spring for Rhino's "Very Best Of...", which has more tracks for THE SAME PRICE. There is a "Volume 2" available, as well. The real gem is Rhino's 2-CD "Dreams to Remember", if you're more than casually interested. The 4-CD box set is for disciples only. Forget Atlantic's "The Ultimate Otis Redding", which is aurally dull.

- A Good Quick StudyAs the previous reviewer noted, there certainly are many anthology collections out there on Otis Redding. However, sometimes the larger the collection, the more intimidating it can be. I indeed am very familiar with Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay and a couple of other tunes, so a small dose of Otis sounds right for this newbie. Let me tell you this music with SOUL!!!! Great passionate vocals, stinging guitar passages, and oh such funky horns. A fine intro to Otis. Hard to go wrong here unless you want more tunes.
