A radio edit of Mansion on the Hill and the album version don't even matter here. In fact the whole Ragged Glory album from which it was culled doesn't matter when placed beside the song Don't Spook the Horse. The song is Neil's finest ever. It may not be the most impressive or expressive or moving or even the best played but it is the one song of his that transends any need for acceptance of anyone. It is the Horse at their loosest, Neil at his funniest and country-punk at its best. Of course T-Bone might rival it but how easy is that to find? There's no pressure here though just a chance to finally be himself.

This C.D./ E.P. is a must have for Neil fans. You're paying for one song, "Don't Spook the Horse" which runs seven and half minutes long. The other two tracks are "Mansion on the Hill", single version and album version. "Don't Spook the Horse" sounds like it was recorded in a barn, not in a poor quality way though, it's an inspired jam with classic lyrics. You can hear the horse clopping away on this track as Crazy Horse delivers a loose yet in the pocket rendition of this song. This track could have been on Ragged Glory but it probably didn't make the cut because of it's barnyard, to close to home feel.
