Motörhead are a British band formed in London in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Lemmy, who has remained the sole constant member. Lemmy started the band after he was fired from Hawkwind in the same year, and he decided to name it after Motorhead, the final song he had written for Hawkwind. The band was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late '70s and early '80s by adding influences from such as speeding up the tempo and toughening up the sound.
