Review - Amazon.com :
There is no shortage of Motley Crue hits collections out there, but this one just might be the definitive. All the essentials are on disc one, which is generously crammed with choice cuts from the Aqua Net years, before Vince Neil outgrew the spandex and Tommy Lee found his true calling in amateur porn--from the sleek glam rock of "Too Fast For Love" and strip-club anthem "Girls, Girls, Girls" to the runny mascara ballad "Without You" and comedy hocus-pocus of "Shout at the Devil." Having just barely survived the '80s, the band gets inexplicably serious on the second half of the collection, delving into such utterly forgettable noise as "Planet Boom" and "Generation Swine." But there's no reason to fret--the compilation is merely doing its job and succeeds brilliantly in tracing the rise and fall of a band whose legacy is turning out to be far greater than anyone ever imagined. -- Aidin Vaziri

- It's edited. What else do you need to know?
If you can deal with an edited cd that removes swears, then go for it. Outside of an expensive box set, this is the best collection of Motley Crue songs you will find anywhere and that includes, "The Millenium Collection," "Greatest Hits 1998" or "Decade of Decadence." This has stuff from every full length album, with the exception of the live album. It even includes a couple songs from the album without Vince Neil. "New Tattoo", the last studio album, is also represented. Nice job, guys.

The three new songs are the only material you need to know about if you are reading this. "If I die tomorrow" does not sound much like Motley Crue, I mean the song was written by Simple Plan. "Sick Love Song" and "Street fighting man" are not bad, by any means, but they sound like the type of songs that would be leftovers on a full album of new songs. The fact this lineup has been away for 5-6 years means fans will buy it, regardless. Overall, a nice package and the new songs will do well, I just find them a little mediocre on first listen.

The previously-released songs, "Anarchy in the UK" and "Planet Boom" seem to be the only ones that were edited, due to profanity. "Planet Boom" is mostly intact, but they really chopped up "Anarchy in the UK", a song that was originally done by the Sex Pistols. It sounds like the cd is skipping when it comes to a part where a swear was. If you have that cover song some place else and could give a rat's ass about "Planet Boom", I suppose the edited version is ok, if you can find it at Walmart. It's funny that the edited one costs more from Amazon than the unedited edition.

The album booklet does not have lyrics for the new songs, but you are told where every single song comes from and there is a fairly decent bio on the band. However, I was expecting quotes or notes from the band, as we've seen on the other "Greatest Hits" cd from 1998, but that was not the case.

I have not reviewed the unedited edition yet, but I give this one four stars and would give that package five stars because it is intact. This loses a star from me, for chopping up two songs.

- Very 'CLEAN' version, it is! A must have! (When you're overtaken by kids)
A very 'CLEAN' version, I've heard, for instance, "Beauty", they removed the nose breathing sound after he sang "... fell in love with cocaine"! But I'll I'll always prefer the very explicit! Better to have them both for collections one for the time. Get it before it's too late! Ha ha!
